help, think nursing agency scamming

Hi I need some advice. Months ago I registered with an angency, Staff Recruitment.au. In my interview I explained to them that I was a nurse in Scotland working in a medical ward. I wanted a job in melbourne, working in a surgical ward, but I was told that because I only had 2 yrs experiece, 1 yr surgical and 1 yr medical I would have great difficulty gaining employment there. They advised me to try Sydney and because I have been working in a medical ward recently it will be a medical ward that the hospitals offer me. Then out the blu they e-mailed me with an offer in a surgical ward, I thought great, accepted. However, I have told them my registration is taking longer than planned, since this I have repeatedly e-mailed them to ask if my surgical position will be kept open but keep being told they will keep a position open. Trying to keep it short here. I feel they are not being direct with me about the surgical position and will now be offered a medical instead. What do you think guy? I had my heart set on this sponsorship.

Not sure what that particular agency is like. But maybe you shouldn't place all your eggs in one basket and look at other nursing agencies as well...

I wonder if you're able to swap once you are here? Take the initial offer to get your "foot in the door", then change later. Is that possible? I'm not familiar with how the sponsorship programme works. Are you locked into it once you've accepted it?

Why not try obtaining a hospital to sponsor you as opposed to an agency.

Sorry can't offer more advice.

Wishing you all the best of luck.

Find the hospital you wish to work in and contact them direct, they will, more than likely be over the moon to hear from you, and bend over backwards to find you the job you want. They will be as practiced in organising visas as any agency, and you will have the confidence of knowing exactly where you will be working. In short there is absolutely no reason to go with an agency at all, and certainly not one that is not giving you what you want! The nurses in Melb have just been on strike due to pay and conditions, and there is a nationwide shortage of nurses. You have a clear idea of where you want to work DO NOT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS. Melbourne's a nice town I'm sure you will have agreat time:yeah:
