Hi, I have already finished the bridging course here in Australia and starte working in the theatre lasts january. If I were you, dont worry too much, filipinos are doing well in the bridging course. In my batch, my sister was the top 1 in the class. Today is the last day of my brother in the bridging course, there are 9 filipinos out of the 20 students, All performed well and was able to finish the bridging course in 8 weeks time. I can say that nursing here is easy. Unlike in the philippines, for example, circulating nurse is also responsible for assisting the aneasthesist. Here, in every theatre, we have the scrub, scout, anesthetuc nurse, ortho tech and other members of the team. In the Philippines, nurses are responsible for the cleaning and sterilization of instruments, here, you dont wash and sterilize your instruments, your responsibility is to check if the instruments that you are going to use were cleaned and sterilized properly. When I worked as an ICU nurse in the Philippines, the nurse patient ratio is 1:3, here, it's 1:1. You just have to get the hang of it and every thing is easy, easy money I can say. The equipment that we use are modern here and user friendly, if you dont know how to operate it while there's an on going operation, there is somebody who is responsible for the trouble shooting of equipment that we use, and that is his job inside the theatre. Everything here is made easy, the catch is, there's a long list of procedures to be done in a day, more than 60 operations per day:smokin:.

Hi there... your venture is so inspiring, you're with Western Australia, right? Which hospital or school did you take your bridging course? And for NMBWA, is working experience required? Thanks a lot and God bless you there..

hi ciao_88! Let me answer your question as I am also on my path to NMBWA.. i know some people who were given an acceptance letter by the nursing board to take the bridging program even with zero experience, however it is the course providers who requires the applicants to have work experience. Like in Hollywood Private Hospital, they prefer nurses with at least 1 year of hospital experience.. :)

wow ijarache, that's really fast track. Thanks for your post. I am very much interested with this option. :yeah:

Way to go ijarache your story is very inspiring makes us nurses wants to strive harder to reach our goals.

I hope I will have the same luck as yours, you see my employer in Australia is sponsoring me and they told me that I will be getting a visa subclass 457 as of now I'm in the process of completing all my requirements but unfortunately things are becoming hard there to process the application all by myself due the recession that has been happening all over the world so what my employer did was they get a migration lawyer who specializes in getting nurses for them to be able to push through with our application. But I already pass every exam that they ask me to get like the IELTS which i got a total bandscore of 7 and the first 3units for the aged care cert3.

As of now things are working out well for me but I have a problem I have a mild scoliosis and hyperthyroidism both are stable. do you think that could be a hindrance for my application there? Hoping that you will get back to me soon ijarache I really need your opinion about this and what I should do on this matter. thanks and have a good day.

hi ijarache, I just want to ask you if where are you in Australia right now? What school can you recommend to us to do the bridging course? I know that it takes a lot of financial matter for us to suffice our schooling doing the bridging course. I'm very much willing to do that hence, the opportunity here in the Phililippine is very scarce. Please help us to take the route on how to take the path of bridging course in Australia. Your'e reply is very much appreciatd! May God Bless you!

I was on a 456 visa when I did the bridging program since the bridge program is only for 8 weeks. If you are going to enroll in a 6 months bridging program then you will need to apply for a student visa. It only took me 4 days for the visa to come out. I started submitting my documents to the nurses board last July 2007, recieved a letter recommending me to do the bridging program by the first week of August then I recieved an offer of place from the bridging course provider by the 3rd week of august, recieved my visa on august 23 then went to australia on sept 9 and started the bridging course on sept 15.

I applied on my own ( no agents ). I dont know if ielts is easier here.

Hi,

What's the best visa option for an overseas nurse undertaking the bridging program in victoria? Is it the tourist visa, short stay (business) visa or student visa? I have been advised to undertake a 12-week initial registration course for overseas nurses by the nursing board of victoria. Also, is it easy to convert the initial visa (tourist, student, short stay) to work permit so I do not have to leave Australia

I think it's the Visa 457.. or the tourist visa.. Aelith from the different thread said that you should convert your Tourist Visa before your bridging course will end.. still not sure about it...

hi MFVL :D.. you should apply for employment in any hospital when you do your bridging program so that when they hire you, they can sponsor you for a working visa, and wouldn't prompt you to leave australia anymore... Good luck :paw:

way to go you really proved that we filipino r.ns are good nurses. I myself also having second thought in proceeding into the b.p. but inspite of that what you have said give us a clearer sight about the situation there thanks

May I ask which state and which institution you took your bridging course in?

I'm seriously considering being registered in Australia. So far, the option I'm looking at is the distance education modules from Queensland. It takes about a year to complete but 3/4 of the learning modules you finish while in Manila.

What attracts me to the approach you took is that its really fast. May I also ask how much it cost you? is work experience required?

Thank you for your reply and help.
