Does a general nursing education qualify to apply for Registered Nursing in the US?

Hi, my fiance' is educated as a general nurse. She is currently working in India and will be migrating to the US in the next few months. In order for her to work in the US, she will need to fill out an International Nurse Application and submit it to one of the US states (most likely Vermont). However, I am curious that since she was educated as a general nurse, does that qualify her to apply for a Registered Nurse in the US or does she have to apply for a Practical Nurse?

Sorry if this is a silly question. I do not work in the medical field so I am clueless when it comes to this stuff. Any help that anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

I think it depends on her qualification... does she have a degree in nursing?

Yes, she has a degree in Nursing but it's Diploma - General Nursing and not BSC nursing. Thanks for your help.

I have a general nursing education and work in the states. First she has to sit for the CGFNS exam. They have a web site that explains what is required. After she has completed everything she has to sit for the NCLEX in America. Hope that helps

Each state has their own requirements for foreign trained nurse and not all are required to sit the CGFNS exam (only approx 4 still have this requirement) most require some form of course evaluation with CGFNS (CES) but would say if she is coming over on a fiancée visa then better to apply to the state she will be living and working and meeting their requirements
