China: Male nurse want to promote himself

Hello guys:

It is my first time to write words here. So please forgive me if I have something wrong.

I come from China. After I got my BSN in 2010, I had been a RN in ICU with 42-beds of a teaching hospital. During this time, I did several research projects and wrote a book with my clinical teachers. I also mastered many critical nursing skills. Then I came to another university(rank 7 in mainland China) to get my clinical master degree in 2012 because of an appetite for knowledge. I choose clinical degree for my master studying because I think the clinic is the field for nursing research. And we have the same entrance requirements, the same base courses and graduation requirements between clinical and research degrees in our school. But I'm afraid graduation because the nursing condition is so bad in China. We do the same work, we are so busy, ignore nursign research, ignore by doctors even though the nurses themselves, canot get respect from others et al. So I have 3 chooses, continue my education for phd abroad, apply phd in China(but change a subject), apply be a RN aborad like UK, US, Australia etal.

I think I am a positive and studious person. I want to do my best to make a little contribution to nursing and try my best to change views from others.

I like do research about infection control, critical nursing, nursing informatics, nursing education, nursing administration, evidence-based nursing and infection shocking research. Because I have worked in ICU which contains so many critical and emergency cases and issues.

I like, but it has no environment and resourses for me to study.

I'm not happy. It just like a guy wants to jump but has no springboard.

I would say you should create your own springboard, then jump. That is easier said than done however. Can you apply your passion to improving the role of nursing in China? Maybe this could be done through journalism or activism, both probably risky activities. You have to do what is best for you and your family. Good luck.

Only you can decide whether or not you want to leave China. That is a big decision you must make with your heart -- with your emotions as well as your intellect. How do you feel about leaving your friends, family, and culture behind to have an adventure in a new country?

If you decide to go to seek a PhD in the United States, I suggest you contact the major universities here. They may have special counselors or programs that help students from other countries navigate their admissions process and get settled into the school. Such a program would be a good way to come to another country as it would provide you with some support systems to help you make the transition.

You also might want to contact people in your own country who have studied abroad. Maybe they can help you get in touch with people they worked with in the US, Australia, etc. -- people who can help you explore your options make that move.

The option to work as a nurse outside of China is viable depending on where you want to go. The US is tougher because of retrogression. You must also find out if the Chinese BSN (and Master's that you obtained) is equivalent to US standards not only in terms of employment but university program admission. llg gave you great advice about speaking directly to directors of PhD programs in the US. All universities have websites now with contact information posted. In such cases, you will be required to apply for a student visa and schools do offer assistance with processing those though the financial support will have to come from you.

So what exactly is your question?

1. I don't understand well nursing situsation in other countries, if they are so busy and have less happiness.

2. I have got my BSN and MSN ,also RN for 2 years. Could I apply RN for USA easily? I know I have to pass the NCLEX-RN first.

3. How about going aborad to apply PHD degerr?

Yes. I will adopt your suggestions carefully. I have many friends in abroad. Some are working and some are studying. I will get information from them.

I don't know if the Chinese BSN (and Master's ) is equivalent to US standards . But I know we can directly apply NCLEX-RN examination and PHD degree. I will get contact with them closer.
