Hello There,

I am a Nurse from the U.K living in USA, just taken the CGFNS last week.

Nobody at the exam seemed to know for sure what the pass mark is.

The study guide states a scale of 1 to 800 with 400 being a pass, while a fellow exam taker (who had previously failed) stated it was 80%.

I called CGFNS today and they stated 540 is the passing score but would not elaborate out of what!!!???

There were 271 questions in total....

Has anyone got any ideas?????

Thank you so much

Hi! I took and passed the CGFNS exam here in Manila last July 2005. The pass mark then was 400. There are some questions in the CGFNS exam that carry more points than others.

If you called CGFNS already and that was what they said, then maybe they adjusted the passing grade. But I do not think the passing mark is 80% as your friend said.

Just wait for Suzanne. Am sure she can help you.:)

Thank You very Much,

The CGFNS have been very rude when I have called to enquire about the pass mark....Actually they hung up the phone while I was still talking, very unprofessional!!!

I hope 400 is the pass mark, I became very nervous when a lady said that you have to get 80%...that is very high.

I didn't know that some questions were weighted more than others, why don't they tell you this in the Study guide???

The study guide was not very helpful, it realy didn't help me much in this exam last week....

Thanks for your reply once again

:) :)

Hi!

A lot of nurses are having problems with the way CGFNS handles things. :uhoh3:

Well anyway, I was just told that some questions carry more weight than others. Seems logical since the final perfect score is 800 and the actual questions are 270++.

I still don't think 80% is the passing mark. That is really too much.

Goodluck Ecosse!

800 points possible, and in the past the passing score was 401. Just 50%, it is definitely not 80%.

Questions have different points applied to them. And some are trial questions, just like NCLEX does for future exams.

Thanks for the Luck,

I think I will need it, there wee some very strange questions....

Bye for now

I just took mine also, last November 9...80% you say? That is pathetic...CGFNS shouldn't make things harder for nurses(as if the exams are not hard enough yet)...Anyway, in case some of us would fail, FORGET THE CGFNS EXAM AND TAKE THE NCLEX-RN exam instead...

If that's what they say, then I recommend, that we BOYCOTT the CGFNS QUALIFYING EXAM...IT'S JUST A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY...

And so are the ETS EXAMS(TOEFL, TSE, TWE, TOEIC)...It's all hard...Let us boycott these so called hard exams, and make them run for their money, I mean profits...I would advocate the bankruptcy of the CGFNS Qualifying exam/Certification Program, and ETS...After all, there are only a waste of time and money...

Take IELTS! IELTS rules!

Again, I say again, CGFNS AND ETS will drain you of your money for no good results...

NCLEX-RN + IELTS is the way to go...

Let's see what they'd(CGFNS AND ETS)do(too bad, they have accumulated a lot already to last them a lifetime, unless they do something stupid in their finances)when they'd have ZERO EXAMINEES...

Michigan stuill requires the CGFNS exam for foreign nurses,a dn that is where she is living, so no way around that.

The TOEFL/TSE/TWE series works quite well for some, usually not the Filipinos due to speaking issues with the exam.

However, several states do have language requirements, and TSE is the only acceptable exam for them. Massachusetts being one. The IELTS series does not meet their requirements.

Taking the CGFNS exam is a choice of the nurse, it is no longer a requirement in most states. Some agencies are still requiring it, in Manila,

and telling the nurse that is required. Even if they have already taken NCLEX. Not sure where they are getting their information.

But each nurse needs to do what works for them, there is no one style for everyone.

Hello peeps,

suzzane, do you know when are they going to post the result of Nov. 9 exam? :typing :icon_ques

Usually about six weeks out. A couple of times I have seen it slightly sooner, and if you do, consider it a present.:)

Usually about six weeks out.
wow, that's a long time for us! so estimated date is Dec 23, 2005. I hope it'll be a Merry Xmas for all of us!

btw, if we pass the CG exam, and assuming CG has our IELTS results, when can we expect the CG Certificate, and the Visa Screen? again assuming CG has the Visa Screen application & fees.

You will get a letter in the mail first giving you your numerical score from CGFNS. Then you can expect the Visa Screen Certificate in approximately four months, depending on where you are, and especially if it is being sent overseas. Soemtimes, they will be sent earlier, but count on the longer time if planning anything, having to do with it.

Nothing gets done fast with them, and especially at holdiay time, plus they have snow days in Pennsylvania as well.

No different from what I have been saying the past few years here. Allow four months from the time that you get notifed that you have passed your exams.
