i finished my BSN in the Philippines and got my nursing license the same year..(2009)

i'm here in Oregon and processing my papers for my NCLEX-RN...one of the requirement is the evaluation of my transcript...

i would like to know if the Board of Nursing here in the US would credit or accept all my subjects and units in the Philippines..or do the Philippines and the BON here in the US have the same subjects and standards in relation to the BSN course...

any info will be very appriciated..thanks!

I can't speak to your personal situation, but, in general, RNs from the Phillipines don't seem to have any trouble with getting their degrees approved/accepted. Apparently, nursing programs in the PI have been set up for a long time with the goal of graduates being able to get licensed and work in the US, and the curricula are designed to meet US requirements ...

thank you for your reply...that's a great help..

another thing, if i'll be needing to provide my potential employers my transcript, do i need to have it authenticated or acknowledged if it would be coming from the philippines via mail?

In my experience, your transcript(s) will need to be verified by the BON to get licensed in the first place and they will have to be sent directly from your school to whomever is doing the verifying (whether that's the BON itself, or one of the transcript evaluation services), but employers rarely have any interest in your actual transcripts -- they just want to know that you're licensed, and, at most, they may contact your school to verify (over the telephone) that you did graduate from the school. But, for employment purposes, you will rarely be asked for transcripts.

Wow.... I've never needed a transcript to apply for a job before. It must be very competitive these days. It's true that BON with verify your transcript in the first place

Best of luck!

ok..thank you very much...that info helped me alot...

Oregon is quite specific in its requirement for foreign educated nurses:

"Nurses Coming to Oregon Who Have Never Been Licensed in the U.S.

If your basic nursing education was obtained in a school of nursing outside of the United States and you have never held a nursing license in a U.S. state or jurisdiction, you must (in addition to completing the Application for RN Licensure by Examination and criminal background check):

  1. Submit a CGFNS Certificate or VISA-Screen®. If you do not have a CGFNS Certificate or VISA-Screen®, continue to step 2.
  2. A. Have your nursing school transcripts evaluated by an OSBN-approved independent credentials evaluation firm. If your education is determined to be equivalent to a nursing education in the United States, you will meet the OSBN education requirement for licensure, and

    B. Document your English language proficiency by one of the following methods:

  1. Submit evidence that your nursing education, text books and the preponderance of your clinical experience were in English; or
  2. Submit an original report showing a score of at least 560 for the written exam or 220 for the computer exam on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
  3. Submit an original report showing a score of at least 780 on the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) exam; or
  4. Submit an original report showing an overall score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 on all modules of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic Module); or
  5. Submit an original certificate from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Schools of Nursing (CGFNS); or
  6. Provide a VISA-Screen® certificate."

At the minimum, they require a C.E.S. (Professional course by course evaluation of transcript) from CGFNS along with IELTS or TOEFL English language test scores.
