Brazilan Educated Nurse in California

Hello everyone!

As a recent graduate from nursing in Brazil (COREM) Conselho Regional de Enfermagem, I assume I now need to take

1. TOEFL

2. NCLEX-RN

3. CGFNS

Should I get my Brazilian university transcript evaluated by CGFNS or go straight to the certification offered by CGFNS?

My goal is to continue with my post graduate education in California. Thanks so much!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Meeting requirements for the state of choice so CGFNS will vary as some states like CA do their own assessment although most require CES report which may be with CGFNS or WES

Will you apply with a student visa or what kind of visa? for this continued education?

Applying to CA to et your RN license requires your (A). country's nursing license as well as (B). a valid SS# (that's work authorized, not the kind that allows one to open a bank account or for ID purposes).

Specializes in Infection Control & Wound Care.

HI Talyta,

Just to let you know, each State here in the US has his own rules. Hawaii (Nurse of Board), where I've been living, doesn't require TOEFL or CGFNS exam.

However, you need to apply for CGFNS anyway as a Foreign education nurse. And CGFNS will require from your University in Brazil official transcripts.

I am still waiting the authorization to take NCLEX, and after a review of my transcripts from CGFNS, I had to go back to school to take mental Health hours in clinical. I am a Public Health RN for 11 years in Brazil, now I am living in Hawaii since September, 2013, where I came to take mental Health classes at Hawaii Pacific University.

If you want keep contact with me will a plaisir help having more details.

Thank you and good luck!

never give up!

SILVERDRAGON,

So in California, I need to do the CES by CGFNS and not their Certification program? Thanks all for helping.

How does the CGFNS differ from the CA BRN evaluation? Does having the CGFNS CES cover the CA BRN requirements? Or are they different requirements?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

No for California you have to send directly your transcripts and the BRN will do their own assessment
