Hello everyone

This is my first post and I was hoping I can get some help

I'm currently studying nursing in the UK and once qualified i want to work in the usa! I know all about nclex etc but I don't know where to start to get out there, would i go through an agency? Would they provide accommodation? Will they bring my family with me (husband and 2 children) also is it worth going to the usa to nurse? What are the good and bad points any information would be really helpful than you

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

Are you asking if an American employer will pay to bring you AND your family here AND house you?

Wow I would like to find the job which would pay to relocate me and my family.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Firstly a lot of UK training does not meet US requirements. Secondly employer usually pays for your immigrant application but anyone else that is added is usually paid for by the applicant. You do not need an agency to do it but may take a lot of time and patience finding employer willing to go the immigrant route

See I have done a lot of research and spoken to a few people who have done similar things to what I'm asking. There was a few websites who told me they could take me and my family over once I was given a job, do you think this is unlikely?

Yes, very unlikely. First, UK nurses are specialty trained. US nurses are generalist trained. Your transcript must reflect clinical & theory hours in adult med/surg, geriatrics, pediatrics, maternity/obstetrics and psych/mental health. Unless you are generalist trained with 5-10 years experience in a coveted specialty area such as cardipthoracic OR, NICU, PICU, etc there are dozens of US educated nurses seeking employment. The potential for this wish is further reduced for major metropolitan areas such as NY, Chicago, California as these areas are coveted areas with a surplus of US citizen & PR nurses inexperienced and experienced often several dozen if not a hundred applying for a single job opening resulting in no incentive for an employer to be willing to sponsor. You would be a new grad and unqualified for specialist visas. The employer would have a difficult time proving a specialty trained UK nurse is a better candidate than the locally trained generalist nurses who don't need sponsorship. Most healthcare employers have tended to only sponsor the employee but permitted the employee to add on family at employee cost.

Many websites say a lot of fantastic things but it does not make the statement true
