About NY "Application for Licensure"

by Recofol

Hi everybody I live in Taiwan.Me and my friend are both nurse, then we want to work in NewYork (both of us have work experience in Taiwan). Now,we donload the application form on the web site. When we fill in the application , there are some questions....So could you please help me ^^;,,,,,,,,THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! here are those questions ---> Q1. Reasonable testing accommodations for individuals with disabilities (check if applicable)
<is it mean to : if I am not disability , then I can keep this question blank?>

Q2. Name as it appears on degree or other credentials (if different from above)
<What is this question exactlly means to @@?????>

Q3. Ablout the port of "Diplomas".In my country,"secondary school" to separate into two parts (we call it "國中" + "高中" each of them cost every student three years.)But I don't know how to fill it into the form...@@??????????????

Q4. Child abuse identification and reporting coursework requirement?
<Is it means that I need to have to take the credit of "child abuse"??? If I didn't have ...What can I do !? >

Q5. Education program review
I give permission to the New York State Education Department to release my examination results to my professional school for the confidential purposes of program review and institution research and planning.I may rescing this authority at any time by notifying the Division of Professional Licensing Services in writting.

Is this problem means that "I agree my school to know my achievements after this examination"!!@@

SORRY about my poor English !! I didn't pass the IELTS exam...... HAHA

And thanks for your reply !!

very hard to find anyone in NY wiling to petition foreign nurses, may need to re think where you want to live in the US.

1) leave blank or if there is a no box tick that
2)If your name is different now to when you took your nursing exams then you have to use the name on your nursing license
3) you need to put down all schooling and dates you was there if it was separate then put them down as separate
4)Is a online course that you have to do before your license is issued, is done online and details are on the website on approved online courses
5)Think this is aimed more at nursing schools in the US for their planning of training for the future

Your English isn't too bad but you do need to pass IELTS for immigration so get plenty of practice and pass the exam

You are also at the moment affected by retrogression with immigration so do plenty of reading in this forum on retrogression and would also suggest reading the thread/sticky Primer to working in the US

Listen to what Anna told you to do, she has given you very good advice. If you still wish to proceed with working in NY, suggest that you get the special credentials eval completed first, that is called the CVS and is done by CGFNS. It takes about eight months on average to get that done, and NY will not do anything with your application until you do that first.

And I would focus first on the English, you need that to be able to pass the NCLEX exam once you get permission to sit for the exam.

Thank you ! Suzanne4 !! I did listen to Silverdragon102 told me You're all very nice to me !! But there are something I don't understand.....Is NY a bed place to working ??? Because I have never been there before....And before I choice NY , I consider some other states..Like California,Washington,NewJersey,Hawaii....First of all...In my country, many nurses apply California in the past years..so I worried about that I can't find a job even I have passed all exam them request...Second,I want to work in a big city..that's one of the reason I choose NY..........Under your opinion (ignore my affinity.),Would you recommend me to choise New York?.... (I forget one point !! -> Foreign nurse always been request "SSN",,,then we could receive our license...It's a big problem if we couldn't get it then we can't work in USA....)

If you are looking for a big city then there are plenty of other states to choose from but you need to decide on what you want out of your move to the US. For example lifestyle and weather. I would suggest doing a list on pro and cons to what you want. Once you have decided it will be then a case of applying to the state board of nursing and meet their requirements for foreign nurses. Do not worry too much about the SSN on the application forms you just leave it blank, if they do not give you a license because you have not given a SSN they will give you a letter stating you meet requirements. All states do have experiences of foreign trained nurses.

The issue with NY is that there are not any hospitals that are currently petitioning for foreign nurses that have not attended school there, or have significant work experience, and I mean significant. You are only going to find nursing homes there to petition and you will be assigned too many patients that you will be legally responsible for.

You need to go to their website to find out their foreign nurse requirements. You can look for it in www.ncsbn.org. Good luck and keep doing your research.
