I'm a school nurse (new role for me) at an American International School in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We have a gardener with Hep B and many of his fellow workers are concerned, as well as the school superintendent. He has his own eating utensils but it just came to my attention that he drinks from the water points around school. How concerned should the school be? All the overseas hired teachers have Hep B vaccinations but not all the locally hired teachers. It is also recommended that the students have Hep B immunizations but not required. This is a country where probably over 10% of the population has Hep B. What do you recommend? We also have a bus monitor and receptionist (dual job) person with Hep B.

from water fountains?...isn't that stretching it a little too far...just a thought. the stigmas it can cause, maybe a training for ur house staff on transmission routes instead.

If a water point is a water fountain I agree with the previous poster that there is no risk. But if a water point is communal bucket of water like it is in some communities. He will need to use his own glass and there should be a serving ladle that no one drinks from.

Please clarify what do you mean by a water point.

Sorry, water fountain. The guy's buddies and management was getting a little jumpy, but I got everyone calmed down. His fellow workers were really concerned about tea time but we got the guy his own eating/drinking utensils and taught him some precautions for work and to protect his family.

Nice to hear from you and that you have things under control, as usual.. :)

How have you been enjoying your new way of life over there?

Not bad and certainly interesting. However, I am about to start recreational drinking over the sad affairs of the internet system here...it's stone age and driving me nuts!

Oh that is too bad. :-( We miss you.

Try to keep posting - I'm very interested in what you are doing.

Best wishes!
