Please share info about Indiana State University LPN-BSN Program?

Hi to all,

I learned about this program while searching online however I have only been given very vague information and would love to here about the program from those who have attended, plan to attend, or have information on this program. Can you share what you know about this program?

1. Is this a good reliable program?

2. How does this program operate? (How are the classes set up)

3. How long does it take to complete this program?

4. How much does it cost to attend this program?

5. Does this program accepts FAFSA(financial aid)?

6. Excelsior vs Indiana State (which would you choose)?

7. Is the program accrediated?

So it's better to take the General Education in a community college first then go to ISU?

I have a California license but recently moved to Illinois so now I have an Illinois license.

I'm planning to go do my BSN soon, since finding a job as an LPN here seems harder for me.

I was initially planning on going to a Private school for "bridging" since in California they have numerous schools that offer that, but I seem to can't find a private school here in Illinois that does that. So I divert to thinking of doing it in ISU, since I know some people that are planning on going there too, but a lot of people re saying that it actually doesn't take 18 months, it tales about 4 years to do LPN to BSN. So I'm getting mix up. Can somebody here help me?

I am currently in phase 3 of the ISU program. I have completed all of the general education and challenge exams. This was my first semester with 2 nursing classes. I have had a wonderful experience so far. It was no gimicks or anything like that. For the record, I did not use TCN and have done my research on them. They are a publishing company and not a school. ISU on the other hand is a recognized university that just has a distance eductation program like many other colleges. Alot of the work is very independent and fast paced. It is up to the you to find your preceptor and clinical site. The school will "facilitate" the process but remember this is a distance education program. You can use there recommended clinical site or you can establish your own. What I have encountered is that many of the local schools have first dibbs on the hospitals so you must network and get a head start. Some of the test are proctored and some are not. If you are already a LPN, you understand how NCLEX question work. It doesnt matter if you have the book in front of you or not, you still have to critically think to get the answer right. It is a lot work and I would not recommend attempting it with a full time schedule. That has been my mistake. I work full time M-F 830-5. Fortunately, I have a desk position and get to do work during some hours of my workday. Otherwise, I would not have made it. This program is as demanding as any other nursing program. Dont think this is a shortcut because it is not. You will fail if you think this is a when I feel like it program. Many Saturdays I get up at 8am and dont leave the computer or my books. There are multiple chapters and online assigments per week. I would equate the classes to the workload of a anatomy&physiology, chemistry or pathophysiology class. The nursing instructors are really helpful. If i email them, they get right back to me the same day or the next. So far as financial aid, I have used both pell grants, subsidized and unsubsidized loans with no problems. They are really good about posting money promptly and have had no problems with the financial aid office like I have with some of the other schools I have gone to. I will keep everyone posted with my progress. I semester down with 5 semesters left (Taking only 2 classes a semester). Wish me luck! Let me know if you have any question. I am getting ready to start my third quarter to obtain my LPN & I am looking into ISU. Did you take the prereqs at another college or did you do it through there college. I graduate my LPN program in June, and I'm not sure how to go about getting my prereqs done.

Hi I have a few questions. .Are you only allowed 2 classes a semester? I applied but the college network called me automatically so I thought I had to go through them. ... Are the classes self paced or do they have set schedules?

I was just talking with an advisor from TSN and they led me to believe if I went thru them I would automatically go thru phase 1,2 and 3. The site for ISU states you have to apply and take testing to get into the program and there are deadlines to do this. Confused can you help?

Go by the ISU website as although TCN has a relationship with ISU, ISU makes the admission decisions. You do have to apply. I believe if not accepted your TCN contract is nullified (but you have to provide documentation) Why not contact an ISU admissions counselor for clarification?

I did the LPN-BSN program at ISU in 2005. I was living in Chicago at the time and for the most part, it was good. I loved my instructors (and keep in touch with many of them today).

The only issue I had was trying to find my own clinical space in Chicago. It was near impossible!

I ended up driving to Michigan to a hospital where I once worked. They let me do my clinicals there and I just stayed with my parents. For my Mental Health, I drove to ISU and they let me stay in the dorms. I completed my Mental Health there with an ISU instructor. I would absolutely recommend ISU to anyone.
