Ivy Tech Fall 2011 Waiting on THE letter

U.S.A. Indiana

I've been reading "allnurses" for several years, never thinking I'd reach this point. So, I never registered. However, after 2-years of night classes the dream of nursing might become a reality. Now, the wait for acceptance/denial begins. It's all come to this point for many of us.

Several years ago there was a forum where people were waiting on THE letter. Why not have one for the folks waiting on 2011? If there IS one I missed it.

We're all in the same boat, all waiting on the letter, and wondering if there was a minor detail overlooked. Was the score high enough? Did my transcript fall through the folder, then get swept under the desk? (That one woke me up last night) In my case, my brain can handle the wait...my stomach/intestines are not doing so well.

Thought this might be a nice thread to vent, support, and otherwise worry with each other for the next couple of months. Near as I can tell, it's going to be 74 days, give or take, before we all know....one way or the other.

Best of luck and keep prayin' I know I am! :)

Faypha...amazing! I'm so happy for you on Lafayette! Several good friends have said 'don't worry about being an 'alternate.' They were alternates and it worked out fine.

The big meeting is July 8th. I'll hopefully know something by then...

Limbo lower now....

Are you going to go ahead and take Lafayette or wait on Anderson? You could accept Lafayette and see what happens with Anderson?

I have applied to SB campus and still have not heard anything. This waiting is horrible. I hope the card comes this week, better yet I hope it comes tomorrow.

So I got my letter, well actually I got someone else's but thats all straightened out. I am #5 on the alternate list and from what Deb Dye said to me it would not be abnormal for them to rotate 15-20 people off the alternate list. I want to congratulate everyone who got accepted and good luck to all us alternates!!

Well....got the word today there are 15 alternate slots from East Central Region. They got slammed with folks from Indy applying. I'm on the 'alternate list,' but fairly low. Hope they take a LOT of alternates this year.....:D

Rhubarbj did you get an alternate letter for Lafayette or accepted? I have seen someone on the Ivy Tech message boards get an alternate spot at Lafayette with a 166. I have a 161.5 and am an alternate, just curious?

As someone who sat through the torture of waiting for the acceptance letter last year, I say congrats to all who got accepted for Fall 2011. At your orientation meeting you'll receive most if not all the information you'll need before you start school in August. There are a couple things that came as a surprise for me when I started at Ivy Tech last fall and maybe my experience can help you out a little.

-First there was a cost for a criminal background check. This wasn't cheap and I had to use a specific company. This was paid out of pocket and had to be done before the first month of school was over. I think I paid 108 or 109. That kind of made me mad.

-Get your stethoscope sooner rather than later. I regretted not using the great deal I saw at allheart.com. I could have saved 10-20 bucks versus rushing to Scrubs and Beyond the weekend for my groovy Littmann the weekend before the BP check offs. I knew I was going to need a stethoscope but didn't know when it was going to be needed. This is another out of pocket expense unless you want to get one from the bookstore. If possible, listen with one first and decide if it’s for you.

-Don't forget to get a pin light. It cost a few bucks and you can get it in the bookstore. I don't recommend buying the ones that click (like a pen); I ended up breaking the bulb in my bag and have been bothered by clicking pen lights ever since.

-White socks and white leather shoes

-A little memo pad in your scrubs is majorly helpful and inexpensive.

-You can reuse your red lab bag (I’m going to assume it stays red) from Fundamentals/Med-Surg to haul stuff to and from clinical.

-Lose your extra piercings and cover those tattoos

I’m sure that there is more but trying to think back to last year takes a lot of work. It’s amazing how quickly the first year flies by and how much you grow as a student nurse. Best of luck to all of you.

Faypha...sorry about the delayed response. I just don't check the message boards as much now....:sniff:

Got denied in both Indy and Lafayette with a 165. Alternate for Anderson, which is really where I want to go. It's 15 minutes from the house.

I have to say, the folks at the Anderson campus have been extremely nice and supportive. It was SO tempting to call or stop by. When I did 'just happen to be in the neighborhood' the folks at the desk were always very nice.

I have the 4-A's and will probably retake the TEAS, but honestly, I'm not in a huge hurry. After working all the time and classes it's nice to have a bit of a summer. I'm taking the CPR class, just for 'fun' and if I'm called for this fall it's one less thing to worry about.

My parents have a 'sampler' on the wall that I've looked at since I was a kid. "Happiness isn't getting what you want....it's wanting what you have." God has been so good to me. It will all be 'ok." :)

I broke down and called South Bend office today. Apparently letters are going out this week. Its been over a week of awaiting the mail lady, I hope they can get it together. I need to start making childcare plans for my BBs. My patience are wearing out ;-)

Is anyone applying to the Gary LPN program?

I saw the message board on Campus Connect and a South Bend girl got her ASN acceptance letter today. She had 181/190...so...maybe today IS the day but another gal posted nothing for her...so maybe tomorrow.

This is driving me crazy!!! STILL waiting on Richmond AND East Central Region...today I got excited for a fraction of a second and quickly realized it was my Dean's List notification. I just want to know when my orientation will be and know what I need to get done before classes start!!! (positive thinking)

CONGRATS to everyone already on their way!!!
