Alternate for nursing program question . . .

U.S.A. Indiana

Does anyone know from experience the likelihood is of me actually getting into the program since I am an alternate for the LPN program at the Bloomington Ivy Tech campus right now. Not that I'm complaining. I'm ecstatic just to be an alternate! If anyone can give me any input, I'd appreciate it.

OK, I do not have an answer to your question but I was wondering when did you find out that you were going to be an alternate? We are all patiently awaiting our letters of acceptance, so I am dying to know.

Go to the meeting! There many be some students who apply at several campuses and more than likely you will get in at B-Town.

I am in the LPN-ASN right now and B-Town only accepted 24 of these students this spring. Three alternates were chosen during that meeting because the others declined.

So definatly go and keep your fingers crossed!

Just an FYI also for you................B-Town has been doing some serious talking on discontinuing their LPN course due to decreased enrollment. Competition to get into any RN program is going to be horrendous!

I got one letter on Friday & another on Saturday. You should hear very soo. Good luck!!!

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I didn't want to get my hopes up if it was for nothing. I can't wait to start.

Can you tell me what your class schedule is like? As a single mom of two, I need to be figuring out a) how I'm going to support myself while I'm in the nursing program and b) what my schedule could potentially be like. Thanks for help! :p

I only applied to Bloomington, so those are where my letters came from. I got two letters, because I applied for both the LPN and ASN programs. Let me know what happens. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. BTW, where did you apply and for which program/s?

I applied to Valpo and Gary for RN programs. Now that I look back, I should have applied to LPN also.:thnkg: Thanks for the good luck wishes. I can't wait for those letters.:luvnltr:

My schedule is a dream. 1.5 days a week. But, I am in the transitional program. Yours will be different if your going into the 2 year ASN program or the one year LPN program.

I would plan on getting a reliable sitter for your kids, plan for long study hours, tons of reading and endless nursing care plans when you get into your 3rd semester if going for the RN.

Do you have all your pre and co-req's done? I would advise to get as many co-req's done as possible before you start the program that way you won't have such a hectic schedule and will be able to concentrate on your nursing core and apply for all the scholarships you can.

You will love B-town. The teachers are awesome and very supportive.

Good luck!

Nursenessa, I just started the Gary ASN this semester. Let me tell you, Gary takes their sweet old time getting those letters out. Don't drive yourself nuts, I did this summer. They were supposed to have letters out end of May/beginning of June, and they didn't actually go out until the beginning of July. Valpo was much quicker getting theirs out, as a result we had many alternates accepted in this semester. A lot of ppl applied to Valpo as well, and of course accepted their spots there instead of waiting for Gary. Good Luck to you, I hope they get those letters out on schedule this time!

Congratulations! I will be done with my transition to RN at Ivy Tech Lafayette. I called and asked what number I was on the list. I was #3 and got a call about 2 weeks after the first letter. Good luck!

I was an alternate for the transition program at Logansport. Within 2 weeks of getting my alternate letter I got the call to take a spot.

Several people I know have been alternates and they all got in. Lots of people apply for multiple campuses, then when they get accepted, they turn the others down. Creates opportunity for the alternates. I have known people that got the call to start as late as the first week of classes.

Best of Luck to you, I am sure you will make it in.
