Silver Cross Hospital Information request

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Just wondering if anyone out there works at/volunteers at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. I'm going to start volunteering there and was curious about what people thought about the hospital.

Ooops! Meant to post this in the Illinois forum! Sorry!

Moved to Il nurses forum.

I applied to volunteer there too... but I never heard back from them.

It took three months before they called me. In orientation they explained they didn't have openings, but now they do. I would give them a follow up call.

I really enjoy volunteering there...the people are wonderful and I have gotten to see a lot of interesting things!

ok, i might call them as soon as i go part time, in the time being i found a job at a clinic, but i'm being trained for a month in full time hours and then go part time. I still would like to get experience in a hospital setting, and learn more, just to have more on my resume. Thanks for the update.

in what Dept to you volunteer?

congrats mochomito on finding a job. I am still looking. Best wishes to all......

I will be volunteering in a unit with the nursing staff. They have you complete training at the front desks first, and then if you will be assisting on a floor you get additional training (I will be completing that next). At the front desks you greet visitors, assist with patient transport/discharge, etc.. On the unit, you visit with patients and help the nursing staff with non-medical tasks (stocking supplies, preparing charts). I work full time and go to class on the weekends, so I only volunteer one night a week. But it's good experience and I really enjoy it!
