Places hiring new grad nurses in Illinois

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi I am a soon to be BSN graduate. I have 7 years of experience in health care working in hospitals/nursing homes as a certified nursing assistant and phlebotomist. I have been applying with no luck. Jobs are posted for new grads, then they take a look and one day later say they cannot offer me at job at this time, or another canidate has been chosen. I am confused because the jobs were just posted. I am qualified, worked at a Magnet hospital for 4 years before starting nursing school and I have a degree in another field. Any suggestions or ideas as to how to get my resumes and applications noticed? Or can anyone direct me to any hospitals or medical centers/nursing homes that are hiring in and out of the Chicagoland area. I graduate in May and I am starting to get nervous, I have applied to over 50 positions since January and no takers yet.:nurse::confused::eek: THANK YOU!!!

Join the club I guess, I graduated June of last year and finished my Nclex and got my license last month. Applied for about 20 jobs and haven't even gotten a interview call yet....

Just wait everyone will call you in a month all at once. At least that's what Im hoping.

Yeah MacNeal is one of the places I applied at. I called today to see why they turned down my application and the recruiter never called me back. I applied on the 5th and was rejected on the 7th. I then realized I had forgotten to take the assessment and called to tell them I sent it in and if that was the reason, but still no response. I plan on continuing to try, hopefully I can find something. Good luck on your search.

When you apply, have all the ducks lined in a row. Make sure your resume is nice and clear, concise yet informative. If you are not sending a cover letter with your application, no recruiter will really look at it. The cover letter should show why you want to work for a particular institution, it's it's not "because I am a a good person and have experience as x and y", but rather, "this institution offers x and y" and you should mention values, mission yatta yatta yatta! Show the recruiter you have researched what this facility has to offer you!

You resume should have an "Objective" section where you state what your career goal is for RIGHT NOW, not for 5 yrs from now.

Objective: To practice nursing at a x type of facility where I will be able to use x skills...." be professional!!!

While you should state what position you have applied for, you have to say, "I am willing to explore other career options at x facility".

Please contact me at "e-mail" or "phone" so that we can find a mutually agreeable time to meet....and so on!

When you apply, make sure you fill out every part of the application, including references. Have a couple of reference letters you can send in with your application also!

For now, that's all!

I have done all of the above except send the reference letters with the application. Some places have an option to send these sorts documents and others don't . Usually I send and updated resume that explains about me and why I want to work for their facility, mentioning things such as magnet designation or new nurse graduate program. I also tie in the mission statement as well. I can try with the letters of recommendation if that helps. I usually thought they only ask for those, if you have an interview. Ok THANKS:lol2:

Nothing much yet, a few places have placed my applications on hold and called me saying that they were waiting for me to be closer to graduation and passing boards. I am glad you are doing good and making good money:) I will keep the hunt on though. Thanks for checking up on me I appreciate it!!:nurse:
