I am from Florida and recently accepted an RN position at Northshore Evanston Hospital. I have one question. Is it hard to find staff parking there? I am in the process of looking for apartments, and I am thinking about finding a place with accessible public transportation in order to get there if parking is horrible. Please let me know.

There's enough parking there, I don't think you'll have a problem. A lot of apartments, too, although not sure if you'd consider them expensive. (We lived in Evanston & Wilmette for many years - moved to PA, now we're moving back to IL).

Should you need public transportation, the CTA operates the Purple Line which has service to Evanston, in fact, it stops right outside the hospital. There is a bus line that services the area. Check out http://www.rtachicago.com/ for all your transportation needs.

Hope this helps.

Hey! I work there! What floor will you be working on? :) Maybe you will be on mine.... we were hiring recently!

Anyway, you probably will not get a parking pass for the main parking lot since it's primarily for MDs & visitors. You most likely will be assigned to the Ryan West football field parking lot in which hospital shuttles show up every 4 minutes. It's about a 2-3 minute drive from there to hospital. Not too bad- I park there too. Oh yeah! CTA purple line is literally next to the hospital, and the metra is around there too. Hope this helps!!

As the other posters have said, public transportation is SUPER close to the hospital. As a former Evanstonian of almost a decade I highly recommend living in Evanston, btw.

I just want to add a few thoughts - The Evanston North Shore area is a great place to live :D - that's why we're planning on moving back once we sell our house here in PA. Take advantage of all the things available in the area. We didn't realize what a treasure the Chicago area was until we left. Here in South Central PA, there's not much. Sure, the view is nice, but it's the little things. Public transportation, the ability to go to several museums, the neighborhoods. I could kill right now for a real Chicago Hot dog or Polish sausage, an Italian Beef sandwich, or a Barbeque Chicken dinner. *wine It's really sad, but around here, the side dishes are mostly "salads", like potato salad, coleslaw, broccoli coleslaw (very good, but they add cheese sometimes), macaroni salad, etc. Vegetables are rather rare at diners here. :rotfl:

I gotta stop now, my heart is breaking.... anyone want to buy a nice house in Gettysburg?

Wow, MovingbacktoIL, you're making me so excited to move!! I'm moving in 3 weeks and I'm pretty nervous because I don't know a lot of people in the Chicago area. And yes, Chicago hotdogs are pretty amazing.
