Moving from CALIFORNIA to Chicago/suburbs

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hope someone can give me a little insight. I've been a nurse for 12yrs now. 3 yrs med/surg experience. Currently 8 yrs in county outpatient health center. I earn $6,400/month, gross. Could I expect to earn anything close to that if I relocate to the Chicago area? After all I've been reading about Chicago salaries, I'm starting to doubt it. I knew I'd take a pay cut, just didn't realize how bad it would be.

Thanks.

I don't think it would impossible to make that considering you have experience. I know some nurses that are making close to that or more than that. It all depends which area you want to work in. I have heard that RNs who work for the Chicago Dept of Public Health make pretty good money (and have good benefits). You have to live in the city limits though. Good luck!

you should be able to make close to that. just dont go more than 40 miles out of chicago. the western and southern parts pay poorly.

Thank you. Didn't know you had to live in the city limits to work for county. Will keep that in mind.

I don't think you have to live in the city for county, but you do for CDPH. You could look into one of the VA hospitals because I heard they pay pretty well....and great benefits!
