I'm interested in taking two mini courses at Moraine Valley Community College. Would someone please suggest a really great professor for A&P I and Microbiology. I greatly appreciate your assistance.

For those of you who read this post and would love to help (like I do with many posts as well) however unable to provide an answer, I want to say thank you for taking time to consider reading my post.

Dont take Zasadny or Timmons for Anatomy,they both teach all over the place and expect you to know EVERYTHING! Check out the website http://www.ratemyprofessor.com and look up the professors at Moraine and see what other students who have taken those same instructors have to say....Good luck!

Thank you very much. I visited the above mentioned website and read Timmons reviews. Not a great rating at all. I'll keep searching. I really need to take a class at MVCC because it's free and I'd like to take advantage of the offer. Once again, thanks.

My apology. I stand corrected. The free course is at South Suburban HOWEVER I will double check for Moraine Valley's incentives and policy for first time (in-district) students over 25.

If you are a in-district resident over the age of 25 AND taking a course at South Suburban for the FIRST time......you have an opportunity to take ONE class for free. It MAY be the same for MVCC since the two share the Blue Island residency policy.

It's NOT Moraine Valley College. You can get the one class free (as state above) at South Suburban College in South Holland.

I wholeheartedly disagree on Timmons. And I can offer a little perspective as to why.

When I was 19 I took Timmons in a 17 week normal semseter for Bio 180. I was young and thought I knew everything. Huh! Timmons schooled my butt for sure. His classes are by far the hardest I have taken in my entire career as a student. I have NEVER EVER seen an instructor that is more thorough then he is. But at 19 I did not appreciate it. I blamed my poor performace on him being "out to get me".

years passed - 9 to be exact and I found myself once again wanting to pursue nursing. I'm a person who likes to get classes completed quickly as my attention wans very fast. I remembered Timmons and my loathing for him but I had no choice he's the only one who taught Bio 180/181 in a 7week class. And let me tell you- he's the only one who can. He is relentless. If class ends at 1 expect to stay until 3. If he says to read it twice read it a 3rd time. DO NOT EVER be afraid to ask him questions. In class, on the side, via email he's ready willing and able to help all student who WANT to learn. He's down right amazing.

I wish my 30 year old self could go back and tell 19 year old self to listen Timmons and quit goofing off. He taught me more in 7 weeks then I ever learned in those 17 weeks OR in the 17 week Bio 115 class I took the semester before.

And my comment to the statement that he wants people to know everything???? He's training future nurses. He SHOULD want them to know everything...and they/we should want to know everything.

Only take this course with him if you are ready and able to give 110% to it.

Whenever anyone asks who they should take for A&P I always recco Timmons.

For Micro I took Schmidt. He can come off like a complete jerk and has a tendency to embarass people in class his tests are impossible but in the end he grades based on effort and what he conisders to be ability. He's defintely a fair teacher.

Thank you very much for your input. I greatly appreciate you sharing your story. I do agree that when I was younger, I goofed off as well. Kept getting Bs and C's (majority C's).

When I finally decided I wanted to get my BS, I stayed focus (I put at least 90% effort and 10% laziness into my classes) on 6 classes in one semester, 2 jobs, paid cash for tuition (out of state), made the dean's list and graduated. I found Graduate school to be much more interesting than undergrad and performed extremely well.

Professor Timmons is THE best! It seems as though that the negative ratings on ratemyprofessors.com simply didn't feel like putting in the effort. If you read what they say, it's easy to pick up on the fact that they just wanted to "skate" by and not put in any work to get a good grade. God forbid one should study!!?!? :) Timmons will help you..but he's not going to seek you out..you need to go to him.
