JJC 2013 Spring Nursing Applicants ?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello - this is my very first time posting a new topic, hopefully I'm doing this correctly.

Just wanted to see if there are any ladies/gentlemen out there applying into the nursing program for the Spring 2013 semester. We apply the first two weeks of August - and then does anyone know how long until we take the TEAS test? I keep getting told different things, it's confusing.

Speaking of.....Hopefully I'm accepted and can then maybe make some friends. I'm so sick and tired of the people who tell you one thing that's untrue, all to mess with your head and make you second guess anything you've ever known about this nursing program. I know this is a competitive field and all, but sheesh already, the lies and manipulation have been unreal!

Also, I have to say, I admire anyone who has (especially while working FT w/a family) gone to school to take these pre-reqs while not even knowing if you will get in. The stress I have experienced, the stress and torture I have put my family through while leaving 3-4 nights a week after work, to go to school, while not even knowing if I'll be accepted, has been beyond brutal. I wish we could write an essay on all that we've sacrificed in hopes that would make some of the admissions counselors feel guilty enough to just put an approved stamp on our applications :)

Good luck to you all!

edit, meant to reply to a single person :(

Holy cow I'm jumping up and down screaming for u. I was crossing my fingers and checking in to see if u made it. I'm sooooo happy for u and even more cause we are in nights together;)))) congrats.

I know!! I am excited, nervous, proud, but also honored to have people jumping up and down to be in a class with me! hehehe *hug* How will I know who you are at the meeting in november? :) Dang it, I seriously do not know how to use these boards (Yet)

I don't know either lol but there will be so many of us. Lol. I'm so excited already picked my stethescope out on line just waiting to buy it after the meeting lol.

Hi everyone! First, I usually spend about 5-6 hours a week reading, studying and doing assignments outside of class. When we have a test, I would say I add another 2-3 hours to that. Second, the nursing schedule does follow the college schedule in regard to holiday closures and things like that. That being said, you do need to be flexible. There are many times that a simulation, orientation or special seminar will be offered in addition to your normal schedule and if you are an evening student like I am, sometimes it's during the day. So, I would just always be prepared to make changes, it will happen and that's just how it is! Next, if you are in days and you want evenings or vice versa, you have to find someone who's willing to switch with you (which is hard because you don't really know anyone yet) and have it approved by the nursing department. I don't have any advice on how to contact anyone to switch, other than spread the word among the people you do meet and try to send an email through angel to the all Nursing 150 students. Ok, I hope I answered everything, let me know if you have any other questions. Just FYI, the evening and day schedule both meet for theory twice a week for 2 hours, clinical topics once a week for 2 hours (usually on the same day as one of your theory classes) and the third day you have clinical (my day was Tuesday for 1st and 2nd semester in evenings, but that's not for everyone) for 6 hours 1st semester and then you move to 7 hours second semester and then 8 hours 3rd semester. For 150 you will go to the nursing home first and then the hospital.

Thank you Emerald!

Hey ladies..........I'd hate to put too much personal info on here as to who we are. Let's network and PM each other privately before the meeting. We can maybe meet up at a location at JJC an hour or so before the registration meeting? If someone doesn't get PM'd.......just post here and we'll send you the info. I would NOT disclose the location or time openly here on the board. It's not safe. It's a public board and everyone can see.

Yes indeed - please don't post your real names, meeting places/times.

please PM me with the info...love to meet up with everyone :) Thank you

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum but I have been reading this post from the start of it. Congrats to everyone that got in. I was originally excepted into the nights program, and Katie my TEAS were a lot lower than yours. I got a 75 overall and a 74 on the reading. I think what helped me out is I have completed all prereqs. and I have a 4.0 GPA So that balanced out my overall scores. On Oct. 18 I went and Tlaked to the department and begged them to switch me to days. They did and then commented that they need to call someone to take my night position. Hopefully that was you Katie.

I think with schedules everyone has a different experience and only comment on what they know. I have talked to other people that have completed the program and the hours are all different. We are at the mercy of who ever we work for and their hours of operation. We just have to suck it up as we will be the peons.

I also heard that we will be the first group into the new building with a new program, So no-one could really give us advice because because no-one has ever experienced it yet. everything will be new for us as it will be for the instructors as well. From what I understand we will be using all new books from different publishers (not later versions), so we cannot use old studens books. I guess we will be the new guinnea pigs for the program.

All I can say is lets make the best of it and master everything they decide to throw at us.

Congrats Murse I am glad they were able to give you the schedule you wanted. Congrats on getting in

I thought the new builiding was opening in In August 2013 but that is very exciting

Congrats Murse!

Does everyone want me to PM the time and local of a meet up? I don't want to over step, but I am a self proclaimed paranoid person when it comes to safety and feel I would do a good job. At this point, I would only give the info to those who have already posted in this thread. No newbies after this post. Sorry, but I must keep everyone safe, and I imagine some people are just plain nose-y and want to know who we are, and not really participate.........so no new people after this. NO EXCEPTIONS. If the time/local doesn't work for most.......then I can start PM's all over with a new time/local that works for everyone. What do you ladies think?

Meeting place will be at JJC, and sometime after registration so we can compare notes and freak out and be overwhelmed together. LOL!

If someone else wants to do it, that's okay too. Just putting the offer out there. :)

Tortiz her is a link for the new health care building.

and thanks everyone for the congrats. Purpleprn do I qualify as a new person for the group or did I just make the cut off. The funny thing is I bet most of us have been in several classes in the past. I do not want to sound like a total newbie but how do you PM someone?
