JJC 2013 Spring Nursing Applicants ?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello - this is my very first time posting a new topic, hopefully I'm doing this correctly.

Just wanted to see if there are any ladies/gentlemen out there applying into the nursing program for the Spring 2013 semester. We apply the first two weeks of August - and then does anyone know how long until we take the TEAS test? I keep getting told different things, it's confusing.

Speaking of.....Hopefully I'm accepted and can then maybe make some friends. I'm so sick and tired of the people who tell you one thing that's untrue, all to mess with your head and make you second guess anything you've ever known about this nursing program. I know this is a competitive field and all, but sheesh already, the lies and manipulation have been unreal!

Also, I have to say, I admire anyone who has (especially while working FT w/a family) gone to school to take these pre-reqs while not even knowing if you will get in. The stress I have experienced, the stress and torture I have put my family through while leaving 3-4 nights a week after work, to go to school, while not even knowing if I'll be accepted, has been beyond brutal. I wish we could write an essay on all that we've sacrificed in hopes that would make some of the admissions counselors feel guilty enough to just put an approved stamp on our applications :)

Good luck to you all!

I'm going to get the physical books. I'm a visual learner so really need actual books. Esp for taking notes and flagging things I may want to come back too.

Man, I feel like I'm spending money left and right on everything we need. Def going to cut into the Christmas budget.

I agree I spent 254 at they fitting, I paid the 70 for back ground (just finished the drug test). Now I have to wait to see what my doctor is going to charge on Friday.

I figured books for the entire program is about 2170.22 and maybe 1500, for digital plus an iPad 16 GB with retina display ( Ipad mini would be cheaper.)

that number I figured without the 25% discount on books if bought in a bundle and I used books currently sold for the nursing department for the fall 2012 semester.

No one can tell me what total book will be.

I think i might lean towards the digital, even though they expire in 4 years and regular books you can keep forever, I am just not sure yet.

Murse, you're so lucky to get into your doc so quickly. I have to wait two weeks. I did get the drug testing and CPR paid for today.

Where are you doing cpr at. I did mine at Edward Hospital, they have several dates and it is only 50 dollars compared to JJC 90 dollars, and it is a 4 hour class verse a 9 hour class at JJC. they are the same classes. It might be worth looking into. save you $40 and 5 hours. Here is a link to the class schedule. hope it helps.

Do you do the one for health care providers? And is this one acceptable at Jjc.

Yes, Edward is for health care providers. They actually have both. the website will specify which on is which. I showed my card to the department and they said it is the same one they give. I took the class a month ago. and the book you get is the same one everyone gets regardless of where you take the class, and Edward has a nice cafeteria.

Thank you I will be saving some money and getting it done quicker because I am going there.

Most local Fire Stations have the class for a discount to residence too. It generally is 50.00. That's the route I'm going, I don't live near Edwards. I think the information about shoes will prob be in the handbook when it gets loaded into iCampus.

Where ever you go just make sure it is american heart association. Some fire departments are red cross.

I just went to a place in Naperville around the fox valley mall to a place called scrubs etc to buy my shoes. They offer 20% for students all times and they have an email sign up when you text them you get an instant 30% off your order. I think their scrubs are better and they have scopes and blood pressure cuffs also. It was much better then life uniforms in Joliet. And did I say 30% off. Yeah me!!!
