DePaul General Masters program

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi!

Looking into DePaul for my MSN and was wondering what current students at DePaul thought of the program. I live in the suburbs and although living at home would be the cheapest I'm thinking living near campus might be best- I don't want to drive 30-45 mins each way everyday...

Also, what was your GPA / experience when applying to the program?

I have a 3.4gpa and so far have As and Bs in my pre reqs but don't have lots of experience.

Thanks!!

Specializes in Urgent Care NP, Emergency Nursing, Camp Nursing.

A number of my classmates who live in the suburbs take Metra into the city, and then the CTA to campus. DePaul charges you for a CTA U-Pass, so riding the L is free, and I think metra offers discounted tickets for students. If you do want to live in the city, I'd suggest living someplace with easy L access that's not Lincoln Park or Lakeview, as those are somewhat more pricier to live in than, say Edgewater or Avondale.

Also, for the MENP program, DePaul awards an MS in General Nursing, not an MSN. It has something to do with how the research component is integrated.

Thanks for your info! The different between depauls program and a MSN is research? Do

other programs offer an MSN?

I will probably be living at home and commuting by EL or car. I know the public transport system well here in Chicago, so I'm good with that :)

More interested in what peoples experience/ gpa was when accepting into the program.

The difference between an MS (anywhere not just at DePaul) and an MSN has to do with research, supposedly. I don't pretend to understand it.

Hello. I am going to graduate from DePaul in June and I commute there. it is about a 1 hr drive one way. It is not fun but it is doable. I have liked the program so far and when I applied I did not have any nursing experience as well. I forgot what my GPA was when I applied but I think your GPA will be fine.

Specializes in OR, Office.

If you're driving from the western suburbs remember that I-290 construction starts TODAY. 290 from Thorndale to downtown will be underconstruction along with the Congress bridge, and Wacker Dr. There are alternates like Roosevelt Rd on the south and from Sacramento off the Ike you can take Warren Blvd. I saw the signs posted yesterday. The other expressways will probably have heavier traffic in areas due to alternate routes. Keep that in mind so if you can take public trans that may be your best alternative.

Thanks for all the info! i'm applying at the end of the summer for the summer-june start!
