I have orientation on the 9th. how is the book list? I am very curios about how much books are going to be.

I'm a recent grad, and I hope they updated the book lists and prices. When I started in 2007 they said 500 bucks tops.... I ended up paying 1000 for everything at the beginning, and more throughout the two years because they kept adding books here and there. Be prepared for that.

Hi MA2006,

What's the 1st semester like? My only class for the 1st semester will be Nurs 101 and I'll also be taking the pharmacology class (did you take pharmacology and what instructor did you have?). Also, I'm sure I'll learn more by orientation, but I'm just wondering, what kind of resources are available in the nursing program as far as tutoring when needed? What do Mrs. Romba and Mrs. Kipnis teach? During orientation when registering (as far as the day program is concerned), are you given the option of more than one instructor to choose from for the Nurs 101 class? If so, do Mrs. Romba or Mrs. Kipnis teach Nurs. 101?

Thanks!

101 and 102 teachers are: Romba, Kipnis, Murphy and Preston

Psych: Corbett and Johnson

OB: Folker, Maeda, and Abdullah

Med/Surg: Zimmermann, Worms, Allen (Clinical) and Beaumard (clinical)

Gero: Corbett, Johnson

Peds: Abdullah and Leply

Med/Surg (part 2): Worms, Zimmermann, and Beaumard (clinical)

For all the new nursing students at Truman. I just graduated this year, about a month ago, and after all is said and done, I am glad I went to this college. It is very reasonably priced and the teachers there have been great (for the most part).

For 101/102 Mrs. Preston is THE BOMB! I've heard great things about Ms. Kipnis and Mrs. Romba as well, but I never had them personally.

BTW, Erica is the master when it comes to info. Everyone better treat her right because she is like the master operator in charge of the whole thing. She can tell you anything you need to know, and she is always great at getting back to you.

Second year is hellacious compared to first year, so enjoy it while you can. But keep these ideas in mind for your second year:

Mrs. Zimmermann is the unequivocal master of information and entertainment when it comes to med/surg. I could listen to her lecture for hours!

Ms. Abdullah rocks in peds and ob, and she will be very upfront with you about how well you are doing in clinicals.

Mrs. Folker is awesome with OB, and because of her I can ace any test of breastfeeding you can throw at me.

Mrs. Corbett is the pinnacle of psych teaching and will really show you how to deal with any difficulty you can think of with psychosocial issues.

Ms. Beaumard is one of the best clinical instructors. Get her if you can!

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for answering our questions!!! I have a question about the required uniform that I am hoping you can help me with. I ordered the white pants that are on the order form in three different sizes(from allheart) and none of them fit!! They look horrendous and I am not kidding, I am humiliated in them. I was wondering if wearing regular, lets say boot cut, white scrub pants was allowed? If I show up to clinicals in anything other then the required ill fitting elastic waste pants will I get in trouble, will they even notice?? I am desperate to return all of these horrible things and buy some greys anatomy super soft boot cut ones!!! Please help and thanks in advance.

Actually, you asked the right person. I did the required men's pants and got fitted and everything... And then when I wore them to the first clinicals, they were hemmed so short that the bottom of the pants kept getting caught in the tongue of my shoes... I knew I couldn't stand it for two years, so I just went to the uniform shop where I worked and got a pair of plain white scrub pants... And no one said a word... Just FYI though... Make sure you have enough white undies to wear under those pants... LOL

THANKS FOR THE GREAT INFO Kbobst81 !!! ....(VERY HELPFUL) I GOT ACCEPTED TO BOTH DALEY & TRUMAN AND I WAS HAVING A HARD TIME DECIDING ON WHICH 1 TO ATTEND:bugeyes:. I ATTENDED THE ORIENTATION 6/8/09, AND IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S A VERY GOOD PROGRAM:up:. I MIGHT HAVE TO GO WITH DALEY BECAUSE IT'S CLOSE TO MY HOME COMPARED TO TRAVELING LOTS OF MILES TO GET TO TRUMAN:icon_roll. I HAVE TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE COMMUTE BACK AND FORTH TO THE CLINICAL SITES. A LOT OF THOSE HOSPITALS ARE PRETTY FAR. OTHER THAN THAT TRUMAN WOULD HAVE BEEN MY # 1 CHOICE:nmbrn:. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASY TO JUST HOP ON THE EL AND GET OFF AT WILSON WITH THE RED LINE, HOWEVER TRAVELING TO THOSE HOSPITALS ARE ANOTHER FACTOR. I HOPE IM MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION. I DONT WANT TO HAVE ANY REGRETS. :(... DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY PPL GRADUATED WITH YOU COMPARED TO THE ACTUAL STUDENTS THAT STARTED THE PROGRAM? :rcgtku:

Thanks for the information! I was accepted to the program, and I start in about a month. I want to start to read and I've tried contacting my teacher, Nurse Huda, but she is on vacation, so I'm hoping that you have your syllabus, or you can tell me where I should start to get a jump on the reading. Also, I didnt see a comment about nurse huda, what do you think?

I never had her as an instructor so I'm not sure what her teaching style is like. If they are still using the same book, just start reading history and ethical/legal issues from the fundamentals of nursing by lippincott. I think thats where most teachers start.

What is the required minimum GPA for acceptance into the nursing program? Do they solely look at the GPA for the prereqs? I have a Bachelor's so will they look at my cumulative GPA and GPA for their required prereqs?
