What kind of car should I get?

Hi, I've been doing HH now for about 8 months and now that I am over the major adjustment period I love it!

I also adore my car but think I need something just a little roomier, maybe. I presently own a Volvo Cross Country Wagon and it does impressively well, especially in bad weather. I feel like I could use some more room. As it is a wagon I keep my supplies in bins in the back, and after almost every patient I will pull over somewhere and get into the back seat to chart on my computer. There is an outlet back there and it saves me the time of finding a coffee shop. However, I might be in the market for a newer car and just looking for ideas.

What other cars do you all have that you feel are a good fit anf function for HH nursing?

I found the best car for home care is one that is comfortable for you. I like lots of cup holders, heated seats and a place to plug in my ipod. I have a Mercury Montego (now Taurus) and I love it. I love having a trunk to hide everything. I had a SUV previously and I hated the fact that everyone could see my bins in the back. And I used way too much gas!

i agree, if you are looking for a new car, get one that is comfortable!!!!!!!!!! in HH we spend sooooo much time in the car it needs to be comfortable, at one time i bought a car because i thought it would be fun to drive, well i kept it for 2 months as it was the most uncomfortable car i could of bought!!! so i say comfortable, and fair to good on gas are the important factors, for me have to have that trip odometer, and i like compartments....now i am driving an Altima and love it...happy shopping!

Definitely a personal choice. I agree with above - comfort and decent gas mileage. I drive a Ford Fusion and I love it. It's comfortable, easy to drive, gets fair gas mileage. I have the AWD because of where I live..there are quite a few back roads and some mountains. Plus I love the way it looks!! THere is enough room in the trunk for my supply box and lab bags. Works for me!

Just bought a PT Cruiser. Love the milage, back window are lightly tinted for privacy, and the hatch is covered so I can put all my equipment back there without worrying about everyone seeing it.

Thanks guys! Can't do a sedan because I have two dogs and like to haul them around. So an SUV or wagon type car is best. I agree, it would be really nice to hide my stuff in a trunk though! I was looking at the Honda Pilot because it has a little hidden compartment in the floor of the rear I could stash a good amount of supplies in. CooL! I love hidden compartments. Too bad cars don't come fitted with drawers and mini-closets or shelving units!

I have 170,000+ miles on the 04 Corolla and it cost me .7 cents/mile and I make up to .58/mile. It depends on where you live. Here in the midwest a 4x4 is needed a lot! My hubbie has a 4x4 if I am desparate...but I love my Toyota and it keeps on pounding the pavement.

I have an 08 Toyota Highlander Hybrid - seats 7 comfortably (I have the extra third seat) which folds down very nicely. Easily holds two-three car seats (I have grandchildren). I drive a lot also (it is 16 months old and has 40k on it). Very dependable and has AWD.
