low diastolic B/P parameter

When and WHY would a LOW diastolic B/P be a problem? I usually set a HIGH parameter of 90 but leave the low parameter blank. I had a visit returned to me for a low diastolic pressure of 58. I questioned this as I don't set a low parameter. I told that if I left the space blank it would automatically set at 60. So, I get a red flag for 58 and was notified that the Dr should have been notified. I just can't see calling a Dr to report this. I would definitely notify anything higher than 90 but LOW??? What's your idea about this?

58 is a fine diastolic pressure. It sounds like a stupid glitch in your computer program. There's nothing wrong with a DBP of 58. I can only imagine the response if you called an MD to report a BP of 110/58.

Wish my BP were 110/58.

I set low diastolic at less than 50.

I also set my low DBP at 50.

That's what I have been trying to tell them!! No way!!

Who advised you that you should have contacted the provider? If that person is an RN they are perfectly able to make that contact themselves. Otherwise, you are paid to exercise your professional judgement when you think critically about your patients.
