hi yall, well this is the start of my second week in hh. last week i rode with a nurse did some of the visits with her. tomorrow they scheaduled me for 2 reg visits. i think this is kinda fast. i was wondering if this is how other hh agency do oreintation. i was only on orentaion for 1 week. they visits are easy visits so thats not the problem. i think the just want another nurse on the road to lighten the load. what do yall think.:uhoh3:

I have seen one day of orientation.........so I think one week is pretty good unless your not ready yet.

i think, if you are not right out of school, they think that you can handle it.

We never send a nurse out alone until they have at least 3 to 4 weeks orientation especially a nurse new to home health. We have found that it saves a lot of problems later on if we bring everyone up slowly. They follow an experienced nurse and gradually take over doing the visits, but the preceptor is with them for thoes first weeks. They are precepted and shadowed for as long as they need and their paperwork is reviewed for the 3 month probationary period. If they need more assistance we will extend their probationary period for up to three more months.

I'm a new grad RN and they are giving me a few day orientation. I'm going to do some visits with another nurse tomorrow. They said within another week or so I'll be on my own........I'm kind of scared.

I'm STILL on orientation. Ours goes for 3 months. I am, however, taking my own patients and care managing patients.

well this is my second week in hh and i am on my own. it has been ok, they havent given me the complicated pts yet whew:monkeydance:. so far i havent gone to far, just in my home town. but i know next week that will change. i guess now that i am on my own its learn as u go. if i have questions on the paper work or on what to chart, i ask another nurse and they are happy to help. ;) . i really like hh so far. its much better than the rat race at the hospital.

I had a little over a week of shadowing other nurses on their visits, too. One day of "office" orientation in the paperwork end of it.

Went on my own in my second week, and like you, was started with fairly "easy" patients.

3-4 patients a day for the first couple days, then 4 patients for about a week. Then up to our usual average of 5-7 patients a day. You kind of gradually fall into the groove, and it becomes second nature.. you know what to look for, what questions to ask, and charting the visit notes becomes easier as well. Now I can do them in my sleep.

At least we don't have to do any case manangement or ICD crapola. :D

That is such a HUGE help... our office admin staff does all that. Wooot!

And yes... STILL ablsolutely LOVING it !
