I have a broad range of nursing experience, and have found my job as a home care nurse the most fulfilling as well as draining job ever. I left the field work after a lot of drastic changes in the agency. I stayed in case management, and am working for an insurance company doing telephonic case management.
I have an opportunity to interview for a position with Gentiva, for Manager of Clinical Practice. It is a team-lead sort of position. I have held several jobs in many areas in my 10 years as a nurse and I think every job has helped me with the jobs that came after it. I got a good endorsement from a previous supervisor (who now works at Gentiva).
I would like to see if anyone has worked with Gentiva on a management level, and share their experience? I can tell you in my current case management job, I am staying because I am getting paid the most I've made. But on some level, I feel like I've settled....

Haven't worked in mgmt at Gentiva, but I think you are saying a lot in your final sentence. If you have 'settled' in your current position, how can the new job alleviate that feeling? I have never met a person in such a position who exuded overflowing job satisfaction. As a matter of fact, more than one has left the job under unpleasant circumstances. Just a viewpoint from the other side.

i work for gentiva tho not in a management position, i have worked HH for 20 plus yrs and now at gentiva for going on 4 yrs.....i like gentiva....they hold the clinicians to a "higher level", my manager is wonderful , she treats me like a professional.....the pay is decent and the benefits are very good. i know there are alot worse agencies to work for....from what i have seem, the interviewing process can be quite extensive so "bear with it"....good luck!!!

I should explain that prior to my current job of telephonic case management, I was doing field work and doing case management visits. I left that job after the home care program I helped develop was taking a different direction by upper management. I was gearing up for a position in management with the program and then they eliminated the position.
Though I enjoy the $$ and life/work balance with my current job, I do not have the opportunity to do the teaching, leadership and staff development that I did in my previous job. I don't want to be a job-hopper. So I feel like I've settled...b/c I can do a non-challenging job and get paid realllly well by a huge company, or I can enter the world of clinical management and feel uncomfortable entering a world I have always thought I'd be (though with quite a learning curve), probably making less money but with likelihood that it is what I want to do in my heart. I hate that money is such a factor...and hubby isn't happy that I'm "giving up" on my current job.

I dont know where you are from but Interim is nation wide and they are a great company to work for. I work in the office while I got to school and I love it. Its my career and dream job and after I finish nursing school I plan on transitioning over to the nursing side of the company. I really think they are a great place to work for, the people are amazing. I am not sure what the benefits or wages for the nurses are but I do know that we have some of the most amazing nurses and they seem very happy with their employment. If you dont choose Gentiva you can always look in and see if you have an Interim in your area.

Does Interim hire new grads or are you a nurse already? The reason I ask is because I have been out of bedside nursing for awhile and have never done HH. I am thinking of taking a RN refresher course at a very respected University and wondering if that could be a place I could look into. I cannot find a job!! Most of my experience is OB/GYN/L&D/Nursery and office nursing with some Dementia facility in there
. I currently work for a senior care company as a caregiver in a client's home. thanks for any input.

I worked for them in Arizona, but not as an MCP, worst home health experience ever. All I can say is the office I worked for (in AZ) has gone through MCP's like crazy in the last 3 years. Last count the office has 2 MCP's and has hired 5 or 6 since and not because they all quit. I have a friend that still works there and was told that when they find something wrong the first to go is the MCP. This is hearsay, but from a very good friend.
I think it's office to office though. So if you get in a good office you'd probably be OK. Sounds as though Berube has a good office to work in, mine... not so much.
I worked for them on and off for 22 years (Indiana, AZ and San Diego). To make a long story short, they told me what I wanted to hear and didn't deliver what was promised. So live and learn, but I would never work for Gentiva again. JMHO

Keep in mind that Gentiva, along with Amedisys and a few other agencies, are under federal investigation for Medicare fraud.
For anyone considering a home health management position, if you haven't worked as a field nurse since OASIS-C was implemented, do not have a thorough understanding of the tool and how it is used, and don't understand Case Weight, HHRG and HIPPS codes, then you are not ready for a team manager position. I'd advise returning to field work, at least until you have a good understanding of the challenges facing Medicare agencies at this point, with more cuts to come.
In my humble experience, the clinical managers that excel are those who continue to see patients, have a good understanding of the field nurse side of the biz as well as the business side, and are able to juggle those. The ones that don't do so well have not had as much (or no) home health experience, or they have been at it so long that their clinical skills are gone.

I was an MCP with gentiva and I would not recommend it. It may vary from area to area but my experience was horrible. The pay was less, the hours were longer and there is not a single person on the planet that is happy at the end of the day. I went back to the field and I am happier but have considered going to another agency because of the horrible attitudes in our office. I stay because of the vacation time I have built up. If you are happy-stay where you are, that job will eat at you 24hours a day.

Stay far away if you value your nursing license. They have 2 lawsuits against them at this time- 1 for Medicare fraud and 1 for labor law infractions. Sinking ship as evidenced by a current stock price of $5/share!!!!
