He took my position

by tback08

About six months ago i started working at a retirement village and or nursing home, I decided, after working a certain floor for some time that i would like to be a perm over there. I put my perm paper in and gave it to the Director of Nursing for her to sign. She did and as of yesterday i was supposed to start as a perm on that floor, i was so excited I love that floor and all my patients on it. I had one of my co-workers come up and ask me friday if i had put in my perm paper and i said yeh the boss just has to sign it. (Mind you he has been there longer then me but was pulled off his perm floor for abuse and is a float now). he then goes on to tell me..."well what if i just get infront of you and have my paper signed and take your perm spot away..how would you like that?"...and what do you know as of yesterday i was called into the supervisors office and told that i no longer had my perm spot because of him.!!!!
I dont know how to handle it i have worked so hard to get that spot and now it was just taken away...what can i do? i have done nothing but cry and complain since yesterday evening!!!1

I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like he has seniority and that's what trumped you, although I'm not sure about the abuse thing.

What goes around comes around. Take the high road. Let the manager know you're very disappointed that it didn't work out for you and you'd still like to be considered when something comes up.

I'm not sure I'd want to work for an organization like that though. Good luck.

Wow! Sounds like he's a jerk but I'm not sure I would want to work there after they did that to you. Especially since he did that knowing you had already turned yours in. What kind of abuse was he involved in and why is he still working there?
Don't get down, try for somewhere else, you may be happier in the end.

Your paperwork was signed and then everything was overturned so they could give your promised position to someone who was disciplined for an abuse complaint? I think you should look for another place of employment. There are other retirement/assisted living homes around. BTW, that guy sounded like a real jerk. Who wants to work around jerks?!

This really strikes home with me, only, the nurse who got my position had way less seniority and experience than me, but she was a close friend to the supervisor. Nedless to say I don't work there anymore. It's ok to cry and complain for a little while to get it out of your system, but don't dwell on it. What's done is done. This sort of thing happens all the time, it just hurts real bad when it happens to you. But you have so much going for you. Before too long you'll be going on to bigger and better things and you never know, this could be one of those blessings in disguise. You are not the loser here, the facility is. Whatever you do, do your job as you always would and most of all be nice to the abuser. Don't give the brick the satisfaction.
