OBLC- Due to go but need more time

Hello all. I am writing this post because I wanted to get some feedback on this topic. I commissioned in Feb 09, and awaiting orders. I was told by my recruiter that the orders should take anywhere between 60-90 days. However, this issue is that she mentioned that I am due to go to OBLC in July. Recently, I was told that you have up to 1 yr from the date of receiving orders to go to OBLC( or of course before they pull the plug). My issue is that I REALLY need some time to study for my boards and to tie up some loose ends before leaving( sell the house, etc). So I was thinking about taking the entire summer to go over the information, and take the NCLEX by Sept/October). Ready to go by Jan/Feb time frame.

IS there anything that can be done about this? My former recruiter told me that the Army would give me the necessary time to pass the boards and tie up loose ends. Any information that you may have on this is greatly appreciated. Thank

I wasnt aware that you could go to OBLC until you passed your NCLEX. Good luck

I was under the impression that passing the NCLEX was required before you could be commissioned.

You are absolutely right. However, I was told that you had at least 30-90 after graduation to take the boards, in order for you to be considered to go to the next oblc class. It is my intent to take the boards in August. My recruiter mentioned that if I was successful in passing, then I would be ordered to go to the next available class( which in this case would be OCT). However, my question is do you have any choice in when you could go? In other words, is it possible to tell her that I would prefer to go in January vs. Oct?

Also is it true that you have to take the NCLEX within 30-90 day post graudation. What if you dont pass? How long do you have & how many attempts are you permitted before the contract becomes null and void.

I'm confused.

1. Have you been commissioned without having passed the NCLEX?

2. Your awaiting orders that will never come until you pass NCLEX.

3. If you take up to 1 year in your case it would be FEB 2010. I guess about 6-7 months after graduation to pass the boards... You have got issues.

4. You don't need more "time" to study for boards. Studies show the longer you put testing off the less likely you will pass. Take it within 30 days or so of graduation. If you fail, take it as soon as your eligible after aggressive remediation.

5. Don't worry about the Army crap at this point. As a nurse once you get your RN you have leverage. They need RN's more than you need the army.

as far as taking the boards......... sooner better than later.............. it seems daunting but its all knowledge you know........... its just applying it unfortunately not to a person but scenario given.

and what will you if your house doesn't sell????? you seem to be really optimistic regarding that issue... hate to remind you about the economic state of affairs....... maybe renting it out could be an option???? just a thought

Thanks for the reply. I will study and do my best. At the present moment. It is my intention to rent out the house and to hire a property management. I will just focus on the NCLEX and deal with that when it comes. Thanks so much

Hello and Goodluck with the boards. As for OBLC I do not know the requirements but by reading your previous statements it seems you are unaware of the class cuts due to funding so if you have a spot and you give it up you may not get in when you want. OBLC is hard to get into and for the past three classes they have cut the amount of students in half. We tried to get me into the past three classes and already they are filling up Oct. All classes from now until then are full. They only allowed 71 ppl in the July class which was cut from 150 I believe.I just returned from the APMC for my yearly that is why I know about the classes. I got in the July class only because I am up for MOB. I took the oath last june and have been waiting to get into OBLC. My advice is if you have a spot and are cleared to go do not give up your spot !! Good Luck

No orders yet, I just returned from APMC last friday. I do know however that during our class 4ppl were set up for the oct class already. They are cutting the classes in half on the amount of ppl per class. My advice to anyone is if you have a spot already do not give it up it may be another year before you get in and that spot you got meant someone was left out so be thankful you got in when you did. I will let you know when I recieve orders !!

Nope. I havent received my orders yet. But my recruiter states that it should be within two months from my swear in date( Feb). So. right now I am just going to focus on passing the Nclex and whatever happens happens. Thanks for the followup.
