Army nurse transition program possible changes
Just wanted to let everyone know that there are new changes being discussed by Big Army concerning the Army Nurse transition program. Basically, we were told that we will no longer rotate throughout the hospital. You will report to your unit, precept with one preceptor and work in Med surg. Then after a year, we will go either Mother Baby and Peds. Did anyone else hear anything about this?

2nd degree to military nurses
Actually, third degree nurse here. I have a BBA in Finance and Insurance, and a MBA in Business Adminstration. Looking back over the past two years, I am very glad that I made this decision to become a nurse. Recent graduate of Thomas Jefferson University BSN 09. Will be attending OBLC in October. Prior AF experience as well. I think that joining the military during this period of the GREAT RECESSION, was the best decision for me. There are so many benefits that I see that will set you up for success. I mean, when I look at my cohort of nurses that I graduated with, how many of them could say that they practiced nursing in Germany their first year out? I am proud to be an officer and understand the challenges that come with that office. I believe that joining the military would be an added benefit to anyone's life, if you let it. FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!

Landstuhl and Guaranteed Course
So this means that I will be a med surge nurse for three years, right? Is there a way to get trained as a critical care nurse later?

Landstuhl and Guaranteed Course
Humph..... Ok.. Maybe if I make my interest known once I am there. That's something that I have to consider.....

Landstuhl-The Single Officer and housing
Nurse Pamela, I would rather live in the village and walk to the local pub. That is totally my personality. I would like to get engrossed into the culture. When you were there did you receive the max amount or the lease amount? How long has it been since you were there? How were the utilities?Car insurance?Internet? Phone service? etc..

Landstuhl-The Single Officer and housing
Ok.. Thanks for the link. I checked into it. Because I have a dependent, it stated that I would receive$1977. Is this the maximum? BecuaseI was informed that I would get up to the amount that my lease was for. So if that is the case, it appears that they would only pay the lease amount( nothing more nothing less). I know with speaking to a few of my other collegues, who are CONUS, they were informed that they would get the BAH stated amount regardless of their lease amount. Just looking for more clarification on this so that I know what to expect.

Landstuhl-The Single Officer and housing
I recently was informed that I received my number one pick- LANDSTUHL!!! So psyched!! But I was wondering, for a single officer is it common that they"live on the economy" or live on base? If so, is there Overseas BAH? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Landstuhl and Guaranteed Course
Hello all nurses fam! I have been informed that if you select Landstuhl as your first assignment(new grad) that you will have to waive the guaranteed course. Is that true? Also, will you be able to get the course in your next duty assignment? Is there any consideration for that? Thoughts are welcomed

Army OR Nursing- what is it like?
Good evening ladeis and gents!! As I am preparing to enter the Army in October, I have begun to ponder on my nursing career choices. I have an interest in OR and critical care( mainly OR though). Just wanted to see if there were any OR army nurses on the page that could give some insight into day to day operations. For example, how long is the training? Were you able to perform more and be really active in the surgery as compared to the civilian world? Were you able to perform FA(first assist) functions, or did you have to go to get certified first? Just want to get the Good and the bad about your experiences as an Army OR nurse. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Hello my fellow allnurses fam!! Just had a question about Tricare. Exactly when does it start? Does it start when you attend OBLC or does it start upon arrival at your first duty station? I would like to know this, as I will be responsible for my son's healthcare this year( single parent stuff). I am scheduled to go to OBLC in October. Any information anyone could provide woul d be very helpful. Thanks

Hello all. I have been accepted into the Army nurse corp(Active) in Jan. Scheduled to go to OBLC in October. I am a single father with a six year old that lives with his mother. Just wanted to get clarification on custody with respect to the Army standards. I was informed that if I join the military that I woould have to sign over full custody to the primary caregiver? Is this correct. Please advise.
