Navy Reserve Nursing quota FY14?

For the recruiters or those who know; how stiff is the competition out there lately? Also, does the nurse boards convene more often than the others? I get the impression, at times it's much easier to get a commission than other times. I was wondering what it has been like recently.

A little bit about myself. Prior corpsman for 5 years, worked at Bethesda Naval Hospital primarily in the Coronary Care Unit and received nothing but the highest evals every time. I have a Honorable Discharge with a RE-1 MBK status. I notice in my service record a document stating I am highly re-enlistable. I held a couple of jobs outside of medicine since I been out, last one for 12 years. 2 1/2 years ago I decided to go back to school and get a BSN. I will complete my program May '15 (3 1/2 years total). I currently have 3.48 GPA. I will be 41 when I graduate. I have been dieting and exercising to get near the height/weight standard but I'm afraid my frame won't allow me to get all the way there. Here's my problem. I understand my age with my prior time won't be an issue by itself. However, I may need a waiver for my weight and with age that may be too much to remain competitive. Any information from you guys will be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance.

I too would like the answer to this question if possible.

I'm not a recruiter---just a current active duty nurse who recently direct commissioned from civilian nursing. I figured since it's been a couple days that I might be the best response you get. Overall, military nursing is very competitive right now. It's even worse for new grads. The military is drawing-down not building-up. That GPA is iffy for new grads, but you are prior enlisted. I'd say it's at least worth contacting a couple of recruiters. I will say that the Navy and Air Force are still taking very limited numbers of new grads, but I don't think the Army is taking any. You might want to look in that direction: ttp://www.navy.com/locator.html or Contact Us: Find a Recruiter - airforce.com. Make sure you choose the officer or healthcare options.

Last time I talked to an army reserve recruiter (almost a year ago) they wouldn't even consider you without a year of med-surg experience.

Currently active duty right now and have to agree with a PP. The Navy is downsizing horribly right now and are looking for ways to get people out. They won't take most waivers and a BCA is definitely a no no. I talked to a reserve recruiter last week who said that quotes are filled until October 1 anyway.

Thanks to you guys for response. I spoke with a recruiter and he said things may be opening up. Few more slots than expected. I say this to pass on not to give the impression I'm confident. I'm sure several out there, like me, scrowl through these forumns for any crumbs of knowledge.
