FY 19 Navy Nursing
By everything I read, 90 days is the minimum experience required in any field. Also, MED/SURG is currently critical. As far as number of billets, Navy Reserve information mind you, I was told needed 50 something (MED/SURG) by the end of the year and only had 27 in process. That information was given in mid-August. Also, that certain previous requirements that were stringent has currently became flexible. I take it not for long. I am not trying to instill any sense of false hope but NOW does seem to be the time to pull the trigger. Personal note I have almost 2 years experience tele med/surg stroke floor and the last 7 mos in a level III high pt rate Trauma/ED. I would accept any position.

Navy Reserve Nursing quota FY14?
Thanks to you guys for response. I spoke with a recruiter and he said things may be opening up. Few more slots than expected. I say this to pass on not to give the impression I'm confident. I'm sure several out there, like me, scrowl through these forumns for any crumbs of knowledge.

Navy Reserve Nursing quota FY14?
For the recruiters or those who know; how stiff is the competition out there lately? Also, does the nurse boards convene more often than the others? I get the impression, at times it's much easier to get a commission than other times. I was wondering what it has been like recently. A little bit about myself. Prior corpsman for 5 years, worked at Bethesda Naval Hospital primarily in the Coronary Care Unit and received nothing but the highest evals every time. I have a Honorable Discharge with a RE-1 MBK status. I notice in my service record a document stating I am highly re-enlistable. I held a couple of jobs outside of medicine since I been out, last one for 12 years. 2 1/2 years ago I decided to go back to school and get a BSN. I will complete my program May '15 (3 1/2 years total). I currently have 3.48 GPA. I will be 41 when I graduate. I have been dieting and exercising to get near the height/weight standard but I'm afraid my frame won't allow me to get all the way there. Here's my problem. I understand my age with my prior time won't be an issue by itself. However, I may need a waiver for my weight and with age that may be too much to remain competitive. Any information from you guys will be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance.

venting!
I'm in my second semester of nursing school. It was highly competitive program to get into and I am very proud to be here. I am a 39 y/o father of 5, happily married and I work 36 hours a weekend. I am perturbed by a fellow male vet. He currently serves in the army reserves. I have done my time in. This guy is constantly demanding special considerations such as additional study time after a weekend drill and he'll make up appointments regarding service so he can skip clinicals or at least leave early. Am I wrong for getting mad because he is getting away with it as well as I don't believe I want a fellow nurse abusing circumstances after we graduate. More importantly I feel this is feeding something deeper. He dosent seem to belong to the same set of rules as the rest of us. Any advise?
