Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.
Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013
Ill start with my story,
I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.
I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).
I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.
The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an Accelerated BSN.
I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.
I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.
Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!
HOOOOOOAH!
Yup, its officially unofficial..I was selected! My Sgt called me from his personal leave to answer my distress messages. They really are so wonderful and I have no idea how I am ever going to thank the recuiters and staff that have helped me through this process! My Sgt wanted to know how we were all hearing since it is still unofficial due to the scrolling issues....yikees! I just called this the "grapevine." I am so excited! I have imagined writing and saying those words for so long now...selected! It is wonderful! Happy Turkey day to everyone!
Congrats girl!!! Best of luck to you :)
With all the people awaiting waivers that I have seen, There may be some spots opening up sooner than later. Not to mention all the people getting ready to retire through out the year.
The numbers HRC came up with for new commissions includes what the total number of nurses needed after nurses get out no matter what the reason is, retirement, ETS, chapters etc. Generally unless someone is getting out for a med board or chaptered you have to but in your paperwork 12 months before you get out.
well I guess with AECP and the ones from this board, it seems reasonable. I didnt know you had to submit retirement paperwork 12 months in advance. makes me wonder though, the nurses that were taken FY 1993 must have left in droves during this past 20 years. Makes you wonder what the retainment numbers are fr nurses for a full retirement lol.
I've been following this thread for a few weeks now. I was anxiously searching for anything on the board selection and stumble upon this. Thank you! I found out I was selected on the Wesnesday before Thanksgiving! I was one of the ones with 2 years or less experience. I graduated nursing school in March 2012, and have no RN experience. I heard there was one person commissioned, but my recruiter told me they weren't waiting on any waivers for me. That the scrolling process could take 1-2 weeks. He said the 10 that were selected with 2 years or less experience, minus the one, still needed to be scrolled. Congrats to all that we're selected!! I hope to meet each and everyone of you through my career! And I heard that they pick up people on the " wait list" continuously! Stay positive!
I haven't heard a thing either. I am an RN with a little over 2 years experience in ICU and now mother and baby. I filled out my app last minute. I had a few weeks to get everything together and I never even got a physical in. They made an exception for my app and hopefully I can do a physical if they're interested in me, but it doesn't look good I'm kind of bummed because I've been dreaming about the Army's OB/GYN nursing precision course since 2008.
