apft question

Hi ya!!!!

quick question:

it was mentioned at drill and I don't know how much truth it is but here goes..............

is it true that if you do the apft at your unit before you go to oblc then you are exempt from apft at oblc????

it was kind of muddy............. something else was mentioned that if you don't pass apft at obc you get sent back home.......... again not sure whether that statement is truth.

I haven't been to medical OBC... but that seems ridiculous.
I'd be prepared to take the APFT at any point... especially within a TRADOC school - but that's just me.

I believe that is true for enlisted (getting sent back) because I also heard something like that at drill. But that is not what I experienced at OBLC in Nov. 2008. If you are Reserve, you do a DAPFT (diagnostic afpt) the second day at Ft.Sam. You are highly encouraged to pass. If you don't pass, you will be doing "remedial pt" while the rest of the soldiers do "combatives" a few times a week. Maybe, if they have time, you will get another chance to pass (we did not get that opportunity), however you will still "graduate" OBLC.

If you Active duty (Regular Army), then you must pass. They give you 2 attempts I believe (one at the beginning and one near the end of OBLC).

thanks for the responses..... I just attended my 1st drill this weekend and as I said that info was relayed to me. I have no intention of slacking..... I invite the challenge...... matter of factly I hired a personal trainer at the gym I go to for a few sessions so that I could really be ready for the Apft be it May or obc in June.

I participated in PT today at drill and it was a blast!!! the young'uns have so much energy it really would've been difficult to not feed off of it.... I was doubled over with laughter at some points during calisthenics....... the run was awesome with the same soldiers singing cadences throughout....... It was all good.... It really kind of baffles me....... how we have so many overweight soldiers when they have so much to motivate available to keep them going.

Is the APFT the same for officers as it is enlisted? I did a little self run through of the 2 mile, 2 min push-ups, and 2 min sit-ups. Needless to say I am not where I want to be, passing (barely) but not where I would like my scores according to what I saw online.

apft scoring goes according to age. the only thing different about officers and enlisted is that as officers you are expected to do more and better. there are plenty of resources accessible online for scoring ranges and how to do the exercises

Hi EMT2:
Yes the APFT is the same for Enlisted and Officers, although I suspect once you hit 0-4 and above you are cut much slack IMHO. I just honestly can't see someone tape a LTC much less a full-bird, can you?

But the amount of push-ups, sit-ups, and the time allowed for the two mile run is dependent upon your age. So, as always, I am a happy old fart when it comes to my APFT! And believe me, I take full advantage of my 24 minutes for the 2 miler....I never said I could run, I kinda.......shuffle......
