Anybody working as an RN in Air Force?

Hey guys, I don't know if this is the right area to post questions about military nursing, especially for those straight out of nursing school.

I am opening a lot of my options after graduating from my nursing program.

I either want to participate in a new graduate RN residency program at any hospital that admits me, or am also considering joining the air force (just the air force branch!) within their health professions program.

If anybody here has been an RN in the air force, straight out of school, what do they require? Is it just physical fitness testing and basic medical training?

Can you choose where you which military base you want to work at?

I want to work at a military air force base here at home.

I also want to find a significant other soon, and having to move around to various places in this country, hinders that opportunity (and I'm getting old too).

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Moved to the Government and Military forum

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

There is some Air Force info in this thread:

The needs of the military will always come first, so you really don't get to choose where you're stationed. Sometimes you get input or a few choices, but don't count on that. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up, Lunah. I didn't know that the military nursing section was under "specialty."

Will read up on the numerous Air Force nursing threads in the gov/military section. Thanks!!
