I lost my job.

The DON approved me 2 weeks vacations and I traveled outside of the USA to visit a sick family member. For reasons beyond my control that I can not describe here I could not come back on time. I took 3 weeks but I had called her to let her know about my problem. Upon my return I when to see her and she told me that I was terminated for voluntary resignation. She offered me to work per Diem. I am a very responsible person. I have been a nurse for more than 13 years and this is the first time that something like this happen to me. Also, I worry that this is going to affect me with prospective employers. Please any advice?:crying2:

A warning about applying for unemployment: if the state approves your claim, then decides down the road that you're not eligible after all, they'll want the money back. My husband has been fighting MA Unemployment about this for months. We don't exactly have $7,000 lying around.

One extra week off? I don't think you should have been fired.

Is there more to the work story? Who took the job? Someone that they wanted all along? How long did you work for them? Were they unsure on exactly how long you would be gone after the approved 2 weeks.

This day and age where staff turnover is so high (at least in our area) you could have probably taken a month or more off and still had a job.

Sorry this happened to you.

Yes, one extra week and I had the DON informed. I worked for them for 5 years. I do not know who took the job, I asked the DON and she said no body yet per Diem are covering. :crying2: thanks.

Thanks for the warning. I am looking for another job before applying for unemployment. I hope I will find something pretty soon.

Like I said before.. this was a convenient way to eliminate a full benefit position. The fact that they are offering you a per Diem job and are only filling your job with per Diem is pretty good evidence. I don't know if you have any recourse, really... but I don't think this was about you at all. Just about the bottom line.
