Does anyone know of any nurses who were fired because they did too much overtime?

I am just curious. I know the nurses at my LTC job stay over a lot in order to finish their REQUIRED charting. We are being given a double message. We are being told to stay over and finish our REQUIRED charting. However, at the same time, we then hear many complaints about how us nurses are always staying over and shouldn't be having so much overtime. Thanks

Yes, you can be fired for excessive OT. In an at-will state, you can be fired for anything.

I work 7a-7p in a nursing facility, and often stay 1 1/2 to 2 hrs over, to finish up charting, accident reports, or new admit paperwork. Our facility management understands this and is okay with this OT. I do however have friends that are nurses at other nursing facilities, and management is not okay with them staying late, but from what I gather there nurse to patient ratios and workload are a good bit lighter
