Hello to everyone,

I decided to start a thread:idea: to find out if there's anyone who's applied or plans to apply to Georgia Stat University's Spring 2011 program. I have already sent out my application package in the middle of August. I know that we won't start hearing anything until October, but I figured it would help reduce the pressure of the wait for us to have discussions about it here.

Hope to hear from GSU applicants soon; and if there are former/current BLSON students :nurse: on here that can give us some advice and helpful words :twocents: it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Hey I am a Junior at Georgia State and have been trying to find people that are appling for Spring 2011 to network with too :)

My main concern is not being able to know how competitive spring semester applications will be and that we will have to wait until mid to late November to get our letters. I have applied to two other nursing schools in Georgia and am expecting their decisions in the next few weeks. It is definitely a bit different than applying for fall and having the summer break to think things over.

But thanks for the post. What are your thoughts?

Well I can def tell you that is competitive. Many who get in have near perfect gpa's and Teas scores, but then they always surprise with outliers, so the important thing is that you stand out somehow. You never know what they are looking for. I figured we can talk about the process as we wait, so hopefully others will join in...

In general - majority of pre-req's completed, 3.9+ pre-req GPA, and 90+ on your TEAS and you're in, without consideration for the remainder of your application. They do send out acceptances on a tiered system (X GPA, X TEAS - Tier 1 -acceptances go out first. Y GPA, Y TEAS - Tier 2 - next round of acceptances, etc.)

The breakdown of 'points' assigned to applications as well as other useful info can be found here.

Yes, that's the point blank information that go by...at the same time, they always throw a curve ball and accept someone who doesn't fit the profile, so you just never know.it's crazy.

Bdanders are you in gsu's program?

nope, I decided to attend MCG's accelerated MSN program. I've heard great things about GSU's program, too :)

Ok , I was wondering because I saw that you were trying in previous semesters' posts. How is mcg & how far are you in the program?

Hi there! I am really glad that someone posted re: GSU Spring 2011 applicants. I sent in my application in the middle of August and find the waiting pure TORTURE!!! I am so anxious to find out if I was accepted and am somewhat scared because I know how hard it is to get in! Does anyone know the earliest we will find out?

hey guys! i'm still in high school but i'm probably going to apply for fall 2012. I was wondering how you guys did on the TEAS 5.0. did you need to be a student at gsu to take the TEAS there?

@mushka if you are in the top 5-10%, u will get ur letter around the 3rd week of oct, since tthe deadline is oct 1st. This is according to what iv e seen in past threads. This top percentage of acceptees usually have a gpa of 3.85 and above and have scored in the 90th percentile on the tease. After that they choose based on that criteria, plus other factors. They eventually start sending them out alphabetically and because there will be tons to choose from, last letters b4 rejection letter can even be sent out up until the, last week in november. After that, its wait list and then rejection letters. Hope this helps.

@hs futuenurs yes, you have to be accepted into gsu before u can tak the teas there. I didn't do perfect... I scored an 85%, but hopefully, everything works out

accepted but not currently enrolled? because i was thinking of going to gpc my first year to take all my pre-reqs because its so much closer to my house than gsu is. but i have to take the TEAS test in the spring because ill be applying for the fall semester. would you recommend me to go to gsu straight out of high school or go to gpc. because im kind of nervous that transferring is going to be stressful but i dont like the 45min commute to gsu.
