Anyone apply or get accepted to this? I'm interviewing for it next week, super excited!

Hi there! Can anyone currently or previously in the VALOR program answer a few questions for me?

1. What happens after you finish your 800 hours? Can you keep working beyond those hours?

2. How often do you get paid? Bi-weekly? Monthly?

If anyone can answer those questions for me, I'd really appreciate it. I just got a call from HR that I got the position and that I'll need to have a physical done before starting at the end of the month. I'm so excited! :)

I only got a 400 hour contract. When I'm done if there's money in the budget I could get another. When I graduate they have some temporary new grad positions and then it's applying for the openings. I get paid on the same schedule as everyone else, had to go through new employee orientation and everything. Just don't get benefits. Good luck!

Hey, I know this thread is old, but I just applied for the VALOR program for this Summer 2015 and I was just wondering if anyone else here applied as well, specifically to the Bronx VA. Anyone that has applied have you heard anything yet? The application deadline was like a week and a half ago, just wondering if anyone heard anything yet.

Hi, I applied for the VALOR nursing student program at VA Long Beach.

I provided my email address but haven't received any information.

I called the staff but he hasn't called me back yet.

Has anyone gotten any information?

Thank you in advance :)

I am currently a VALOR participant at the little rock VA! Ask me any questions! :-)

Specializes in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

As a veteran, one does have a much better chance of being accepted. I was considering applying to it but I didn't make the deadline. I had a friend who did. They interviewed approximately 30 and only accepted 3. Good luck! It's terribly competitive.

I am in the process of applying for the VALOR program for this summer! I am most concerned about my resume....I was directed to apply through USA Jobs, and I know that in order to get noticed in the federal system one's resume has to be structured a certain way with certain keywords. I looked at getting my resume built with a professional federal resume company, but it's going to cost almost $500! Is that worth it?? Or do the letters of recommendation hold more weight?

The resume builder on USAjobs is adequate it has all the information that you need to put on it. I would also Google "federal resume" and type up one in a doc format and upload that with your package as well.

Thank you!! I appreciate it. :)

I am a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom. I find it egregious that I had gotten passed over by two civilians in my nursing class. As veterans who served our country during time of war we should get priority if we meet the criteria. The VA in Northport NY should be ashamed of themselves for not promoting veterans. I think all veterans should be primary candidates. I am not asking for special treatment just fairness in regards to the commitment I gave to my country.

You should contact the person at the bottom of the announcement. If there is not a specific listed individual call the VA and ask the operator to transfer you to HR. There should be someone who can talk to you about that specific announcement. Also look at the email that you received regarding referral/non-referral. You are a veteran (with/without points?) and there are certain protocols they are supposed to follow, and if it is on USAJobs they should be following those. VALORs should not be critical hiring positions where they can bypass those requirements. That being said it is not a guarantee. Were you interviewed? Are you certain you met the criteria/submitted the correct paperwork? Paperwork gets a lot of people. If you were in the Best Qualified category though I would definity persist until you talk to someone who can speak on the specifics of that particular announcement. I would PM you but I do not have 15 posts yet. At this point I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable at USAJobs.

Also another note, they probably have a nurse recruiter. Try to speak to them. I know some VAs do.
