  1. I work in the ED and wear my Apple Watch every shift. Aside from using it in a clinical capacity, you can get all your text messages and calls on it, so without looking at your phone you can see if it's something you need to go somewhere that cell use is allowed, or if it's something that can wait. its also easy to clean, I use the sport strap for work and wipe the entire thing down at the end of each shift with a Lysol wipe. The straps are easily changeable so I have a nicer metal one for when I'm not at work
  2. Here in NY the only state schools with a BSN program have wait lists of at least 3 years. On Long Island there are only 2 community colleges but both only offer ADN programs which are basically useless on Long Island as no hospital I know of will even consider your application without a BSN. That being said, the only BSN programs in the area run around $15,000 per semester for a total of $120,000 for 8 semesters/4 years.
  3. I just graduated from Adelphi this May and passed my NCLEX, but Molloy is also a great school. If you're interested in emergency or critical care, I would stick with Molloy because I believe that all students do a clinical in one or the other, at Adelphi you can only do ED or ICU as your capstone, and only then if you're lucky enough to get placed there! If I'm not mistaken, Molloy also has a better first time pass rate for the NCLEX. Adelphi might not take all of your pre-reqs so you might end up being there for closer to 3 years. They require Physiological Chem (they take very few things as a transfer for this course), pathophys, genetics, microbiology, nursing informatics, and nursing nutrition. I'm not sure if they accept comparable informatics and nutrition courses. I transferred in with a BS in public health and it took me 3 years to graduate.
  4. I just took the NCLEX on 7/1 and got my Pass on quick results on 7/3, my license was just posted online yesterday (7/12), but I am still waiting for the physical copy in the mail. I assume it took a little longer because of my test being a holiday weekend and the high volume of new grads this year.
  5. Did you go to nursing school in the US? If so, you're infection control and child abuse would be included in the curriculum. Not sure how long it takes to receive your license in the mail, but I just passed the NCLEX on 7/1 and my license was up online on 7/12, still waiting for the physical copy in the mail though.
  6. I am a senior nursing student and wanted to assist the relief effort from hurricane Patricia. How do I go about this? I'm sure I can't just fly there and show up to a Red Cross staging area to offer my help, but none of the groups I've reached out to over the past week have responded to any of my emails or phone messages.
  7. Hey, I know this thread is old, but I just applied for the VALOR program for this Summer 2015 and I was just wondering if anyone else here applied as well, specifically to the Bronx VA. Anyone that has applied have you heard anything yet? The application deadline was like a week and a half ago, just wondering if anyone heard anything yet.
  8. Hey, I am in a very similar position as you. I am finishing a BS in Public Health this December and applied for entrance into Adelphi's nursing program for the Spring of 2013. I need to do a semester of prereq's then go into the nursing classes. I will be graduating this December from SUNY Old Westbury with a GPA around 3.8 and got an 80 overall on the TEAS... scored well more than 10% over the minimum in each section. When I spoke to a transfer advisor, I was told that I have a very good chance of getting in, but now have to wait to hear from them because my application is for the Spring and they have not finished reviewing applications for the Fall. They said I should hear from them by August. At least they make an effort to keep in touch, the advisor emailed me when they received each of my transcripts and has been keeping me up to date on the status of my application... a welcome change from the SUNY school staff. Are you applying for the Fall?
