Time you spend for homework and studying?

How much time do you spend for homework and studying? Do you feel like you have adequate time to manage homework/reading/studying if you manage your time well? Do you feel like your homework is balanced throughout the week? In other words, does lecture or clinical require you get the majority of your homework done in a very short period of time or are you able to work on it throughout the week?

Thanks for your reply.

I spend 5 hours/day in studying and accomplishing school works..

pre-NAU...Is that time spent everyday of the week...clinical, lecture, and off days?

@ OBplease: I am only a pre-nursing student taking pre-requisite courses, so as of yet I don't have any clinicals. Sometimes, I only spend 4 hours studying, it really depends, on Fridays it only takes me 2 hours to study because I am done with the school works by that time. I don't study on weekends, it is my "day off" :)

For me it depends on what I have going on. I do NOT study on clinical days. When I told this to an instructor she said: "Well, I sure hope not! You're using your critical thinking skills while you are at clinical, you may not be doing the stuff you learn in theory every clinical, but in essence your brain is working just as well if not better than studying."

Depending on the workload, I average about 4 hours a day, on NON-clinical days. I'm already learning about nursing 12 hours a day while at the clinical site, that's enough for me. :D

Now, if I have a paper due, that's a different beast. I tend to put those off until the last minute, so add on a few more hours on a day before one is due. (The smart girl that lives DEEP inside may says to change that particular BAD habit. I might just do it, but I tend to get A's on my papers anyway. LOL)

Kristey...I'm that way too, waiting til the last minute on papers, although I usually do some random research here and there before hand. I also hope to change it. 4 hours!...is that also on weekends or just on your class days/days off during the week?

I'm just trying to get a good idea how much time I will be needing to spend and how to use my time most efficiently so that it will least impact my family. I'm sure I won't have the full idea until I get in it but wanted to have a good idea going in so that I'm not all over the place. My school will be three days/week, with a two hour lab day in there, if I get into my school. Since the lab day is after my lecture day, I was hoping to maybe take a few extra hours, with my youngest in care to get as much work as I can done, so that when my kids and husband are home, they won't feel so neglected. My fear of all this comes from the fact that one other school, I'm applying to, I know someone there and they are telling me they spend all of their free time working on school. They say they have no time with family and one of the children seems to be having a very hard time because of it. My thought is that the school schedule for my school seems to be laid out well, lecture on M, 2 hour lab on Tues, and clinical Wed/Thurs. I don't know how or when work is due but I'm hoping it's doable...seems doable.

I work at least 40 hours a week, have lecture one day a week, and clinical another day. Compared to most nursing students, I think that I'm a little different. Unless there is an exam, paper, or assignment, I do not study or do any school work. On an average day, I do not study. When I have an exam, I will only study the night before, and maybe only for an hour. I know this sounds strange, but it works for me.

Im in my first semester of nursing , so bare that in mind...I dont have any clinical days yet, those start nxt term:)

I spend about 4 hours everyday doing homework...but thats at home when I'm at the library I am far more productive.. and i need one full weekday, but when I go to the library I'd say that its about 3 hours per day and a full weekend day..I think its just b/c I haven't gotten into the groove so I'm hoping the next semesters are better...hope that helps :)

Here is what my week looks like:

Mondays- class from 7-2, pick my patients and do clinical prep sheets from 4-9ish depending on when I get done. If I'm not too tired I will study after.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays- clinical from 6-4. I'm so exhausted after clinical days the most I can study is a hour if I'm lucky.

Thursdays- class 7-2, exercise, them study/ homework for about 4 hours

Fridays- off class. I sleep in, run errands and study for 6-8 hours depending on the workload. If I keep myself motivated and get this done during the day I can go out Friday night.

Saturdays- off class. Study/homework for 6-8 hours in chunks throughout the day. Clean the house a little. Can usually go out to eat with friends or family later in the evening.

Sundays- are my day off!

I hate my schedule because pretty much all day mon through wed is devoted to clinicals, and we always have huge tests on Thursdays.

We have tests on Mondays too, but those are for a easier class. It's nice because I can study over the weekend and actually remember it on Monday.

Specializes in i can read really good lol.

I so have senioritis. Its so hard to focus because my mind is on graduation next semester. My advice would be to prepare in advance get a good nights rest and dont stress. If you dont know it by 10 pm the night before you wont know it by 9 am the next morning. Give your self time to study and relax you know it.

That's funny I just posted a thread regarding this. I study 2 hours a day, and on Tuesdays after Lab I spend another 3 hours doing homework, case studies, papers, or simchart. One of my classmates says she studies every night from 8pm-1am, and she is always tired, stressed out and I've caught her crying sometimes:-( I feel nursing school is all about time management and organization. Most of the time is spent doing homework that doesn't even count towards our grade:-(
