the new NCLEX

When I first started with my school, our pass rate was I think 94% or 96%. I thought that was pretty good. Earlier this semester...I found out our pass rate is now around 80%, and they said it was due to the new format of the NCLEX. Anyway...80% is pretty bad, I wonder if the new NCLEX is causing other schools rates to drop....or if our school is just using that as an excuse??

Yes, the NCLEX pass rate dropped all over the country because of the new format. Ours went back up again though.

How can i check the NCLEX rate for my school?

Chillout,

Jen is correct. Sometime around March or April of this year they floated a more challenging version of the NCLEX and a lot more people than usual are failing. Our rate had dropped, too. But its back up again because they've modified our exam questions so that they look very much like the new NCLEX: a lot of 'select all that apply' and a lot of pharm, but the big kicker is priority nursing interventions.

Ask your nursing school admin about the passing rate. They have that info there.

Thank for the info, I'll ask the nursing director at my school.:)

I heard they were going to remove the fill in the blanks, is that correct? There was also mentioning of nixing the "all that apply"?

I don't know. I haven't heard anything about it.

I don't know if I speak for myself, but I personally am fearful of the NCLEX. There is so much information and some I am sure we have not covered. How can you be prepared for something that holds so much content? Of course, I have started to study little by little because I graduate in May. I just hope the random selection of questions asked is not in a weak spot of mine. Good Luck to everyone!!!

I've heard that they added "select all that apply" questions to the NCLEX, what else did they change? We never have any 'select all that apply' questions on our exams, so that kind of scares me. However, we do get a lot of priority nursing intervention questions.

i've heard there are select all that apply, non multiple choice math ?'s.

our pass rate this year was still good, as always, with passing above 98%. out of 40 grads, only one didn't pass on first try. we had the 2nd highest pass rate in the state. (2nd to a 8person bsn class), so no, itsnot gone down.
