Taking baby boards....

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Well, tommorrow is the day I take my first crack at baby boards....eep!!

Anyone else have this coming up? And does anyones elses school make passing baby boards a requirement for graduating the program? We are all feeling enough stress taking them, but having to pass them to graduate doesn't help any....

Wish me luck.....

They are like a pre NCLEX test, we take them to kinda gage how much we know, identify our weak spots, help us focus in on what we need to study to actually pass the real thing...

So i just have a little bit of stress tonight

Sounds to me like a weeding out process to keep the schools numbers up...makes me wonder if their fail rates got to high and they are on probation with the accrediting org or the student loan programs.

Rates got low when the curriculum was adjusted and clinicals rearranged for a few years, but we are in the 90% and up range for pass rates...both schools in my area make a big deal out of these things, I assumed it would be the same elsewhere.

They don't try to fail us out, but they do make it a requirement, in all the yers they have used the baby boards, no one hasn't graduated due to not passing. I would hope that at this point they wouldn't try to weed us out, CA needs to many nurses!

I have to take these this semester, too, but haven't heard them called that yet. It's designed to help, more preparation, etc. What we take is the Mosby test (can get it online). We take it together as a class in a controlled atmosphere so it's also like practicing sitting there taking the real thing, too. I'm not stressing over it since I know it doesn't keep me from getting a license, and actually might help me tune into what I need to study better.

I went to the Mosby website and took their "pretest pretest" thing. It gives you half a dozen questions and then gives you a prediction of your ability to pass the test in percentage. Try going to their website and check it out: http://www.mosby.com/nclexcat (It's free to take the pretest thingy and might ease your mind a little!)

Good luck.

Dena, couldn't find a "pretest" button on that site.

Legs, good luck on the baby boards !:)

"baby boards"....what an affection term for such a stressful event!

Click on "sneak preview of Mosby's online CAT..." and that should be the pretest.
