It's my last semester, and I've started taking all kinds of shortcuts to save time. Here are some of my favorites:

Soup for dinner: just open, peel off the label, and heat up the can directly on the stove

Dishes: I now use only paper plates. You'd be surprised how often aluminum foil can stand in for cookware.

Healthful eating: I don't have time for it. I buy cases of V8.

Showering: If I didn't have time to wash my hair, I use hair freshening spray and a ponytail.

Cereal for dinner: Hey, it's not that bad for you.

Laundry: Use Febreze. Buy two weeks' worth of panties and socks. When you run out of towels, use hand towels, kitchen towels, or even paper towels.

Coffee: I don't have time for it. Buy caffeinated mints.

Reading: I don't have time for all of it. Fall asleep with textbook on face and hope some of it sinks in.

Febreze instead of laundering?!? Guessing you don't have sensitive skin. That, and your scrubs should have enough fomites to walk away on their own ;)

Not my scrubs. I guess I should have specified that. It was supposed to be a fun post, but leave it to someone to get upset.

If you wear your clothes when you shower, you'll get your laundry done.

LOL! Love it!

I have resorted to putting my kids' clothes in baskets, rather than folding them and putting them in their dressers. My husband and I's just goes in a big pile on my file cabinet, I don't even bother with the basket. :lol2:

We eat picnic style most nights because my books cover the table 9 times out of 10. Kids love it, though!

I've started wearing my six year old's socks because they fit and mine are often really gross because I'm constantly on the go.

I'm only in my first semester, give me one or two more and I may be stealing your ideas! :geek:

PBJ dogs - pbutter and jelly on hotdog bun. easy to make and too convenient to handle when eating. also, I take a few minutes to transfer my pbutter into a pastry bag with nozzle so that I just glop it onto the bun - it takes 3 minutes to do and saves me at least 1H and plenty energy in the long run. but note that it lasts longer if you put in in a sealable container in the fridge (jam comes in convenient squeeze bottles).

thanks for clarifying about the scrubs getting washed, alarm bells were going off in my head screaming "risk for infection". don't take offense though because this is what most, if not all, of us are taught in nursing school.

I'm sorry, but there is no way I can use febreeze instead of washing panties and socks. Your other suggestions I agree with.

PBJ Dogs, now THAT'S something I can get behind, LOL...

I had a shortcut that applied to my kids, and still does for one of them: a week's worth of clothing made into a "packet" and stacked on a bookshelf. A "packet" consisted of underwear, socks, t-shirt/sweater, folded into a pair of jeans and stacked. Each morning before school, take a packet and WEAR IT. NO thinking in the morning, or rushing to find something so you can get out the door!

One could always put wax paper in the underwear. (This suggestion was from an old comic routine I once heard on TV.)

I am definitely going to have to do this when I start nursing school next semester! Anything to make things easier in the mornings.
