thanks a bunch amber.

You go, Amber! If you've been a mom for 6 years, you have lots of experience organizing and prioritizing! That's what you will need to do.

Don't really worry about how you used to be as a student... it's a different ballgame in college. You are there because you want to be and even though you don't get to choose the classes, you are choosing the subject.

Get a study partner as soon as you can.

Don't be afraid to ask questions... if you already knew it all, you wouldn't need to be trained!

Figure out soon how you study best... I don't do well at home. I get more actual studying done at places like Starbuck's, the library, a table on campus. There are too many distracters at home.

Don't worry about failing others... you can do this... and even if you have to get some extra help or you learn on a different schedule than others, that's okay. Just keep plugging along. Look around you... lots of us are doing it... and most of us are very similar to you!

It took me 25 years to work up the nerve to do this... and I found out I am good at it and I had wasted a lot of time!

You can do this! Good luck!

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

We have a woman in our class that is 52 years old and hasn't been to school since she was 14 (she got her GED). She had 6 kids (all boys, heaven help her) and is co-owner of her husband's poultry farm. I see her and say "oh heck if she can do this so can I!!!".

Amber,

You can do this. You will not fail and you need to keep on telling yourself this until you beleive it. As far as studying goes, it always works best for me to stay after class and do my studying and all my homework before I even leave campus. Of course I will still read my notes when I get home, but I already have all my flashcards made, notes in order, readings done, and end of chapter questions. This is really helpful when you start to go over your notes and you noticed you don't understand or missed something, because your instructors are usually still there and you can go to them with questions. Then when you get home you can spend the time with your family. Study habits become habit if you set a specific time aside everyday for them. Don't worry about H.S. I didn't do all that well back then. I think I graduated with a 2.0, and so far I have a 3.7 in college. I commend you on doing this and think it's wonderful. You will surprise yourself at how well you will do. Just remeber dedication is the key, a few hours everyday can go a long way. Best of luck to you in your program.

I just wanted to wish you good luck.I have never been to LPN school so I can't tell you what your first week will be like. I will instead offer you good wishes on a successful nursing school experience.

Thank you all for all of your support it is greatly appreiciated I did'nt have problems in school I was actually a good student and I have taken some college courses but this school is a tech school not a reagular college persae so I will be in class the first trimester m-f 8-2:00 and second and third trimester 7:30-3:30 2 days a week in class and 7:30-4:30 2 days a week in clinicals with fridays off. I also hear that a lot of people drop quick due to the pressure so thats why I wondering what i'm in for. :chuckle

Amber, you need to see what supports that you already have in place... hubby, family, friends... to help out so that you don't feel the pressure as much. It will be work! But you can do this. Many people drop out... lots of people make it! Just believe that you will be one of those that makes it and forget about those that haven't planned ahead and can't keep up! Don't make dropping out an option. Even when things get tough, make a new plan to help you to succeed and fulfill your goal!
