Some good news(it seems so rare these days)

Nursing Students General Students

Financial Aid had a list of places to seek tuition assistance and such on our school website so I called and went to talk to a place called WAEDA(Western Arkansas Employment Development Agency) and they have a program for people who have been accepted into the nursing program and make less than 28,000 a year where they will pay books, tuition, uniforms, and $4.00 a day for travel expenses. I filled out all the paperwork and got accepted! I am so excited! As long as I maintain a C average and stay in the program it's paid for.....Just wanted to shout it from the rooftops!

Hi Robin!

HOORAY for you!!! Congrats! :balloons: :kiss

I wish you well, and merry holidays to you! :nurse:

Go talk to the counselors at your schools.....there is money out there to be found if you go looking....especially in nursing because if students drop out of the nursing program--regardless if it's for academic or financial reasons---it reflects badly on the school. They want to keep you there & will offer ways to help you pay to stay there.

We were told at orientation that there were 13 scholarships this past semester that no one even applied to so the money was never used...and many scholarships are not based on your gpa.

Rather they are based on your future intentions & being a nursing student shows that you intend to follow through on a career in nursing when you graduate. The director of the nursing program told us that if we are in dire financial need, to come to her because she has a few options open as a last resort to get money. Their was another lady (not sure who she was) that told us that they will even lend us nursing books if we go to her office & fill out the paperwork. And she also had money available to distribute, but she said so many people don't want to bother with the paperwork.

Apply for all that you can, you might be surprised at what you receive.

Jen

that is great I am so glad that yu go some assistance

I agree with Jennerizer...$$$ is out there but you (students in general) need to make the effort. Unfortunately, no one is going to just come to your front door and hand you a scholarship!
