hey guys

so i applied to a BSN nursing program at my university. i had high hopes of getting into the program for spring 2009. so a few days ago i recieved my rejection letter, and felt awful. The nursing program at my school is very competitive and only accpets 40 students. I feel kinda bad cause it seems that everybody that i know is being accepted into nursing school. I know i am only 21 but it seems that i will be the oldest one in the program

so for people that have been rejected..how did it make you feel? what did you do in that extra time? also for those who have got in how long did it take to get accpeted?

so now i am in a situation...i have finished all of my pre requirements. so what do i do while waiting to get in? should i retake some classes and raise my science gpa? what have you guys done?

If your school allows retakes and does not penalize you for them, I would retake classes to raise your GPA. You can also decide on a minor and take classes in that area. Lots of nurses have a minor in health science or in psychology, to name a couple of possibilities. Have you applied to other programs? Hope you get in soon. Good luck.

I applied at another school.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I was not accepted on my first try, but was on my second. Keep your chin up, it will happen for you. I took some extra Psych classes and also needed Micro so I finished that during my one semester wait.

Specializes in LTC, Cardiac Step-Down.

It hit me hard too when I got rejected. I think I moped around for a couple weeks and then made plans to attend a different school. Next time around, I got in and I'm actually much happier at this school than I ever was at the one that didn't let me in their nursing program. You never know.

Thats what happened to me! I love the school I am at now.

Rhody- What school do you attend? I was accepted at St. Jospeh's but I turned it down and stayed in Louisville for school.

Get a job in a nursing related field (if you don't have one already) to gain experience and earn some money while you are waiting. Apply to several different schools.

When I applied, I got accepted to several--obviously I could only go to one, so I declined my spot at four other area schools. Many people do this. Others determine that the price is too high, it won't work with their family after all, or maybe they end up not passing their last semester of prereq classes. That waiting list could shrink pretty quickly--you might be at the top of the list (or in the program) by the time January rolls around.

Nursing schools are terribly competitive. Don't be disheartened, and don't give up.

hey thanks

i was of thinking of doing that. but what kind of jobs can a person get with no experience that is related to nursing school?

hey thanks.. i am still kinda upset, but i am sure i'll get over it. luckly enough they accept applications fall, spring, and summer. so i think i am going to apply for the summer.

You're 21 and you're afraid you'll be the oldest in your class? That would probably be the youngest in my class...LOL! I'd also suggest a few retakes. If your current GPA didn't work, then it would seem there's area for improvement. You never know what the pool of applicants will look like each semester, so why not put yourself in the best position possible? I know it sucks to spend the extra money, but you'll be kicking yourself for not doing it if you happen to be declined again. Best of luck!
