Is it possible to transfer Nursing Schools?

Nursing Students General Students Nursing Q/A

I am freaking out a bit...

I am just starting nursing school (RN program). There is a possibilty that we will have to move from the area we currently live. I know programs are structured very differently from school to school and the answer will vary, but has anyone heard of any schools that accept transfer students? Basically I guess I am asking is it completely unheard of to transfer schools when a nursing student. Thanks for any advice here...

It's not impossible to transfer nursing schools. It just depends on what the schools require as coursework so you may have to send other things besides your transcripts when you apply to the new schools you're interested in because they want to see what was taught in thoe classes. Just because both schools offer Nursing 101 doesn't mean that the courework is the same.

Your best bet would be to contact the schools in the area that you're moving to and tell them you're already enrolled in one school but want to transfer to them and see if you can send your transcripts now to see if the credits will apply. That'll give you a better idea plus if you really are moving and they don't take the classes you can withdrawl now and not have to repeat the classes.

Good luck. I hope everything works out.

I was also told by an instructor that it is easier to have the first semester transfered than any other semester. I certainly would not want to transfer from third semester.

Good Luck.

Thanks ladies. I am thinking down the line and nothing is for certain, just a conversation with my husband regarding his job presently. I did call a school this afternoon near a prospective area if we were to go and they do NOT accept transfers. They said they don't even guarantee accepting the science prereqs like A&P or micro.

I guess the answer is it really just depends on the school, right?

I am so hoping I don't have to move...

I tried to tansfer (to 7 different schools) when I moved to another state and it didnt work out. Had to move back in order to finish w/out starting all over w/ pre-reqs, waiting lines, etc. It was horrid.

Be very sure you can do it before you move and get everything in writing.

Yes! But it's not easy. I moved from AZ to the east coast after my 1st semester of nursing school. When I found out I had to move, I immediately called the director of nursing at the school I wanted to go to, sent my transcripts, jumped through all the paperwork hoops and was admitted for the 2nd semester. The programs are not exactly the same, but I went into it knowing that. I have had to work harder to catch up but there are some things that I learned that they haven't yet, so it's been doable. I would have to say the hardest part is the social aspect because of the bonds that were already formed by my classmates now. Everyone here is really nice, but I miss my girls from my old school! Good luck to you...if you do end up moving and have questions, let me know!

Just be careful what school you are looking to going to. I go to a 4 year university and was thinking of transferring to University of Kansas and NONE of my credits would transfer for nursing school. Not worth it so look before hand

I am in last semester and I need to move anybody a school that will allow a nursing student to transfer almost all credits?

anybody know of a nursing program that would accept nursing transfer credits without asking why. I have been expuled from a nursing program due to what they termed as mis-communication" . I have passed all of my classes and never have violated safety or patients.

I would like to know a school that would accept a transfer nursing student without questioning.

what should I do? I have worked so hard and invested so much to walk away. I will not give up.

You can look at Alfred State College in NY. It's a two yr program. You can only get credit for the 1st year of nursing classes.
