Pinning Ceremony Attire

What are you required to wear to your pinning ceremony? My class will wear graduation gowns (no caps), but previous classes have worn the whole silly get-up. Since my school has a graduation AND a pinning ceremony, I think it's asinine to wear a graduation gown to pinning because, to me, it's NOT a graduation.

But that's just my humble opinion. :lol2:

I'm not a fan of graduations so I won't be attending my pinning ceremony because of the graduation gown requirement.

So in honor of my spring break boredom, here's a quick poll:

1. Are you attending your pinning ceremony?

2. What are you required to wear?

3. Does your school have graduation in addition to pinning?

4. Did you buy your school's pin? If so, how much did it cost?

(My answer to #4: I bought one that I will give to my dad because he collects pins. I hate yellow gold so I bought a silver one, which was $40. It's ugly and feels quite flimsy. Kind of a rip-off, but my dad will like having it in his collection.)

yes, I am attending both pinning and graduation. Our school requires females to wear white scrubs and males to were professional attire. We got to pick our own pins. I choose one for $50 it is brass. It was the cheapist they offered

Okay, maybe it's because I'm a brand new nursing student - officially finished pre-reqs last semester and received letter of acceptance 12 days ago - but at this moment I cannot see myself SKIPPING either the pinning ceremony or graduation. Maybe it is also because I'm 34-years-old, spent my own money on this education and worked my butt off for the last 2 years - not to mention the 2 to come....but I will be attending both ceremonies. That's just me....I think not only will it be important for me but for my family...especially my children.

I have seen pictures of our school's pinning ceremony and they must wear their uniforms. Caps/gowns are reserved for graduation.

Thanks for listening - just my :twocents: .

1. Wild animals couldn't keep me away from my pinning ceremony! (And in case the Universe is listening, no that is NOT a challenge!) ;)

2. I don't know what we are going to wear. Most of the pictures of previous classes they are in their school uniforms.

3. Yes. Pinning is about 2 days before graduation. We were told we have to go to graduation ceremony if we go to pinning. Reason being that at some point, all the nursing students just went to pinning and there weren't any nursing students at the graduation ceremony. So I am going to both even tho graduation seems like it might be boring.

4. The pin was bought for me as a gift from my father. There were 2 choices; gold-filled for about 50 and 10K for 150, The pin is optional. We are told everyone will receive a pin at the ceremony, but the ones who don't buy one will get a little tie-tack type pin.

1. I wouldn't miss it for the world. I won't be going to the campus-wide graduation, however.

2. We wear a white uniform (either pants and top, or dress) with our caps.

3. Yes, but I'm not attending.

4. No, I don't have to buy a pin. A local hospital purchases the pins for the graduating class...a whopping $70+ each. They're monogramed with the student's initials on the back. Another local hospital gives each student a long-stem red rose at the ceremony.

1. Yep. I earned it. Plus, my mom's a nurse and she would kill me if I didn't go.

2. We have to wear white scrubs. Dress/pants-doesn't matter as long as it's white and it's a scrub.

3. Yes, and I'm doing that as well.

4. Yes, I bought mine for $58.

of course, as an LPN we don't get a graduation-only a pinning ceremony. We have to wear white scrubs basically. I think dressing up with white lab coats would be best, but that is tradition. I will go since it is a big mark in my life, but my RN graduation will of course, be the big one-then though, I probably would not go to a pinning ceremony.

I am not sure if we are to buy our pins, I am 99% sure the cost is covered in our tuition.

Yes I am going to pinning & graduation....would not miss it for anything! I got a brass pin ~$50. Our class decides the whole pinning pretty much including who pins you. We did fund raisers to pay for most of our expenses. I cannot wait.....Females wear all white (scrubs) Guy (we have one) professional attire.

At pinning do any of ya'll do a blessing of hands? I think that will be pretty neat.

I went to a Catholic university. Our sophomore year, the week before we started our first clinicals, we had a blessing of the hands ceremony at the school chapel. All of our families were invited to the event, and it was really beautiful.

My current hospital, also Catholic, sends chaplains around on all shifts during nurse's week specifically to bless the hands of those who are interested.

Wow! Do you have a small class?? Ours is the school's largest ever this year, at just shy of 60 graduates. There's also two other nursing schools (maybe three, not certain) that use the local hospitals for clinicals. Don't know their class sizes, but still....

If they bought me the thing, I'd wear it for the ceremony ;)

White is required for my school. Personally, I'm wearing a white blazer jacket & pant suit ( on sale at J.C Penney's origionally $80, purchased for $14 I even got the pumps to match on sale as well ) I'm wearing my nursing cap too:nurse: My only worry is hair up or hair down?

Yes, we have a separate graduation which I'm also attending. (I spent $15.00 on a Phi Theta Kappa stole, so I'm going to make sure to get good use out of it. :clown: )

Yes, I purchased the pin for $40.00, and thay also want us to purchase our own roses!

We have to wear our hideous white uniforms to pinning! YUCK! Not looking forward to that.

I'll be attending, but unfortunately I didn't get a pin (I missed the deadline for turning in orders to SNA the week my kids were home sick)! :(
