OK....how difficult is pharmacology? I don't know what to expect. Starting 2nd semester on Monday and right into pharmacology we go. Any info, suggestions, tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

I, personnally, found Pharm to be one of the more difficult classes. Thank goodness we had a good instructor! She took her time with us and answered lots of questions and had lots of extra credit!:chuckle

Just make sure you read alot...over and over!

I took it in the first semester. Trust me, it isn't so bad. I don't know how your syllabus looks but if your chapters are anything like what we covered, you'll do fine. If you have a cd that comes with your book, use it! Actually, I thought it was interesting!

Specializes in ER then CVICU now.

Hi Suzy,

I hated pharm alot but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. I didn't find the material so hard but the amount of memorization is ridiculous. I put all the drugs, s/e, implementations, indications, etc on index cards and studied from those which made things alot easier than reading and studying them from the drug guide and book. You could carry them around wherever you go and study so I recommend you do this. Good luck!

it's kind of "dry" but necessary evil, not too bad

Pharm was probably the hardest class that I took in nursing school, and one of the most important ones once you start working. Its a lot of memorization. Just keep on top of it and dont cram.

I am hoping that because I am taking at the end of my nursing program that the experience working with the drugs during clinicals will help. I guess I will have to wait and see. Good luck to us all.

Specializes in LTC, ER, ICU,.

i suggest studying the drugs as a class, as opposed to individually, paying attention to a distinct different of side effects/patient teaching, etc. in the individual drug.

Know the side effects and use.

Most medications have a side effect for what the recommended tx is for.

Another, N/V/D......Most meds side effect is this.

Good luck, Its all about memorization in this part of your learning.
