Anyone else starting their second semester in their program fall 2014? We start med surg, I have no idea what this semester will entail but I'm excited and nervous at the same time. :sarcastic:

Any tips former second semester students can provide would be helpful. I'm at work and a little bored lol

Specializes in Hospice.

Our instructor told us first and third semesters of our program were hardest, but we did Medsurg one in second semester and I beg to differ. For me, second semester was definitely harder than first. And it's only going to intensify from there.

Congrats and wish you the best in your 2nd semester! I start my 5th session tomorrow!

Specializes in None.

I'll be starting my second semester in the fall and I, too will be taking med-surg along with peds/OB. Good luck! :-) One semester down!

Specializes in Critical care.

I'll be starting my second semester in the fall too and taking med surg. I'm taking my first semester this summer- no break for me! lol

Guess we'll all be in good company. Congrats on passing your first semester!

At my program, 2nd semester is chock full of medsurg, OB, and Peds. Third semester is also hard, almost as difficult as 2nd semester is. First semester isn't too bad, but people have problems with it just because they're having to adjust to NCLEX-style questions and usually it's all new content.

Second semester was definitely the hardest! We had med surge and pharm 2. Just a ton of time requirements. Paperwork was a beast, kept us up half the night before clinicals and then a ton of other homework /papers besides. Good luck! I learned a lot but I'm not sure I'd repeat it! Lol

Specializes in Hospitalist Medicine.

Our 2nd semester consisted of Med Surg, Maternity/OB and Long Term Care. I actually liked Med Surg. If you remember your Physiology well, you'll do fine in Med Surg. OB was a breeze and I actually liked clinicals more than I thought I would.

The material was more difficult in this semester, but I enjoy learning about disease process, so I found it fascinating. The clinical paperwork became more in-depth and we were expected to come up with correct nursing diagnoses on our own, instead of being guided. The hardest part was having to type our paperwork (17 pages) and submit it in less than 24 hours. I had many a late Friday night!

Specializes in Intake, Home Care.

First semester was awesome, second (Med Surge and OB), well, thank god for OB, or I would have failed. I studied for weeks before the final and barely passed! I am terrified of next semester!
